Hidden Harbor Beach Getaway!!!

It was so lovely!  So much fun!!!  Fun that we all need at times!  Spite the hours of traveling, we had a very relaxing time at the beach this past weekend!!!

I have not been to Ocean City Beach in a long, long time.  Years.  We were invited to go with such great friends!  We knew it would only be a quick trip and so we thought about it and decided that we could not do everything.  Then on Tuesday night, we looked at the forecast and decided that we would try to do everything after all.  :)  How ridiculous but OH, so much fun!!!

I had to promise to keep the packing lite (since Mike hates to travel with bags and bags but how can you go lite with a family?  I just always seem to take way too much!).  I tried to put most things in our large suitcase but still ended up packing two bags ... one with foods and one for the beach.  Then a small cooler was needed for our lunch meat and yogurt that we are completely addicted to right now!  I grabbed some blankets, pillows, the sand toys, the beach chairs, bottled water and before you know it ... the back of the van was full!!!  Yikes!

I was up early packing the van so that Mike wouldn't have to load up all that stuff.  I wasn't in the mood for feeling guilty!  :)  Then he got up and we loaded the sleepy eyed children in the van and we were off!!!  I wish I could say that the way there was simple and a breeze.  I wish we wouldn't have needed to stop three times for our toddler Miss to pee.  I wished our little Miss wouldn't have had belly ache and really wish she wouldn't have thrown up!!!  I was prepared though because she kept saying she didn't feel good.  I grabbed a plastic bag and caught most of the chuck up in it.  However, this did cause us to stop again and clean up the mess.  We did finally end up at IHop to eat a good breakfast and enjoy the rest of the short trip to the beach house.

The weather was perfect!  Sunny and warm!  We unloaded the things from the van and packed a quick lunch and headed for the sand!  The waves were wild.  The sunscreen was applied and we spent the whole afternoon on the beach!  The boys and Ashlyn ended going back to the house while the rest of us enjoyed the beach for as long as possible!

Matthew couldn't wait to be buried in the sand!!!

Then it was Ashlyn's turn!

Priceless ...

Hadassah helped make some castles.

Ashlyn enjoying her lunch on the beach!!!  Way too cute!!!

We ate supper at an all you can eat seafood restaurant!  The kids loved the crab legs but what a mess!!!  Matthew's shirt looked like a napkin and was all messy!

Matthew kept adding all these "fun things to do" as the night went on.  He wanted to mini golf.  Go to the arcade.  See the boardwalk.  Buy something.  Anything!!!  Well, we did end up walking the boardwalk for an hour.  Some things don't ever change.  It's been years since I was on this boardwalk but it still looked the same and was packed out.  The boys played in the arcade awhile.  We bought some Fisher's Caramel Popcorn!  By then, the girls were tired and ready for bed.  Sleep did feel good after starting this day so early!

Sunday was another bright, sunny day.  I went out for a short run and then back to make some breakfast.  More packed lunches and more sunscreen applied!!!  This routine I could get very content with!!!  :)  This time we took a Frisbee along out and the boys loved that!  Hadassah really likes the ocean waves and kept begging for someone to go along in and jump the waves.  Mike did and how hilarious!!!  I laughed and laughed!  He would jump a wave and ride it into shore.  Then go running out to catch another huge wave.  He kept running in and out, in and out.  I finally told him that he should just jump the waves and stop riding them in the whole way.  He got so tired!  Later, we all ended in the ocean together!!!  What a riot!!!  The water was cold at first, so you just had to run in.  I went running in and right out to a big wave.  Mike, Hadassah and Matthew were right with me.  Ashlyn watched from the shore.  It was fun but I got caught in a big wave and it washed me in shore with a scraped knee and salt water but my nose.  I wasn't sure how I would look coming out of the water, but what a blast!!!  :)

Here she goes for another wet dive!

Matthew caught pretty many sand diggers.  Interesting!

Hadassah helped too.

Ashlyn loved the water but not in her face!  We tried to keep her wishes!  :/

Total blast!!!

I love this one!  Hand in hand and laughing!!!  I love it!

As you can see here, Hadassah enjoys the sunshine and tanning skin.  She's beautiful!  Mike has an office job and so his outdoor tanning time is limited.  Nothing more said about this here.

OK, well just a bit more to say.  He tanned very nice in two days and his skin color looks great!

Like I said before ...it's been years since I was on this boardwalk again and some things never change.  I was so glad to see that there are still sand sculptures of Jesus!  This brings back great memories of us youth girls sitting in the sand, singing with Kathy playing her guitar!  Oh what a sweet memory.  I am glad I could show our children this work of art!!!

Matthew and Mike throwing Frisbee here!  What a catch!!!

Later in the afternoon, the lifeguard riding a four wheeler suddenly started blowing his whistle.  Then we saw lots of people coming out of the ocean.  What was it?  A shark?  We saw a fin.  No, it was a dead dolphin that washed up to shore and then back out.  It got washed on down the ocean.  The stir up was entertaining.

The boys dug a big hole in the sand and Mike made a turtle out of sand.  Hadassah and I were so content just soaking in the sun!!!  Ashlyn did great too!  She napped on the beach and filled her little pink bucket up with sand!  The ocean water she liked too as long as her head didn't get wet.  If it did ... well, it was drama!  :)

The weekend was so much fun and we got to enjoy a gorgeous sunset most of the way home!!!  The sky just seemed to get prettier!!!  Then prettier!  We just love admiring sunsets and it topped off such a great weekend!!!

Our short stay was really too short but very enjoyable!!!

Summer memories!

Being together with some cousins before school begins, is always a blast!!!

We've been wanting to spend the day with Rosie and the boys before school starts and so we finally got it accomplished this week!  We went down their way to a state park and spent the whole afternoon in the sun!!!  It was such a lovely, beautiful, warm, nice (did I mention it was so lovely?), type of day!  The weather was great for swimming and the kids all had a blast!!!

Here's Ashlyn loving the attention from Rosie!

Lena and Hunter joined the fun too!  He's such a cutie and so lovable!!!

Hadassah and Jeffrey were swimming all afternoon.  They got a good dose of sunshine again.  These two always have such fun!  Middle Scholars this year ... :)

Of course ... we need a crazy photo too!

Now, here we have Jeremy and Matthew.  For them, the day consisted of snacks, drinks, the pool and running through the sprinklers.  Throwing balls.  Never dull.  Never holding still.  Always thinking of the next thing to do.

Yep, you expected it ... so here it is.  Another crazy photo.

Ashlyn with her good friends ... Aunt Lena and cousin Hunter!

This was another afternoon.  Rosie dropped in and the boys wanted to play.  They hooked up Matthew's boogie board to the four wheeler and around and around the house they went.

Then they tried "surfing".  :)

The four wheeler gave it all it had to pull these kids around.  What a blast!

Another evening, Matthew was thinking outside the box and grabbed the runner sled and gave Ashlyn a ride down the ramp.  I love pictures like these!  They are so special and seeing the children have fun with their own creations is so fulfilling!

Ready?  Here we go!!!!

My favorite!!!  Matthew and Ashlyn are such great pals.  They fight the most together and then play the nicest together.  All in one ride!!!  :)  She adores her big brother and absolutely loves when he plays with her!!!

We did it!!!  It went the whole way down the ramp without them falling off or cutting a toe or scraping a knee!!!  Yeah!  "Let's do it again!!!"

With school being in session now, the house it only filled with Ashlyn's cute voice.  Well, at least until the others arrived back home!  Then things get noisy again!  Love it!  :)  She plays with her toy animals.  She cooks pretend food for me and Baby Kate and Baby Anna.  She looks at and 'reads' books.  Polly pockets are fun.  Riding her trike outside is something she mastered!  Both legs just pedal and pedal around the driveway!

Her stage of life right now is still challenging and the training process is knee deep!!!  We deal with her wanting to do everything herself.  This includes going to the bathroom and strapping herself in her car seat.  Just last night, Hadassah wondered if she will out grow this independence stage?  Hadassah asked for a good night kiss from her and Ashlyn was not impressed.  It's got to be her mood.  Ridiculous.  One minute she's so lovable and the next minute she squeals when you look at her.  Help!!!  :)  We do pray that we will steer this determination the right way and not always give in to her having her own way all the time.  It requires patience and prayer and consistence.  We love her to death and I am convinced my life was boring before she entered our world!!!  :)))

Our summer has been so much fun and packed with nothing but wonderful memories!  We are so blessed to have good health, a God fearing church, a Christian Day School to send our children to each day, and born again family!!!  God is so good!!!

Even though school has begun, our summer will still linger just a few more weeks!  Stay in touch to see more fun events!

Back to school ... already.

We are back into school.  It's sad because I know now that summer is winding down fast and we are not ready to say good bye to the pools and sunshine and tanned skin!!!  It is also a happy moment though because even though the children were not really that ready for school to begin (summer just went too fast), they had a great start yesterday!!!

Yesterday, was their first day back to school.  I told them I might cry after they leave.  I didn't ... but it sure was a quiet morning with the two oldest back to school.

Hadassah is starting middle school and she is a bit anxious about the whole idea.  It's now switching classrooms, being warned by blue slips if you forget something needed for class or don't get homework completed, no snack time, etc..  She's growing up and now seems to have more responsibilities.  I know she will do just fine!  It will take just a few days till she's used to the new way of school.  She said that the classroom was quiet yesterday.  Everyone seemed a bit nervous.  I think a full day of school today will have them all fussing and bubbling over like their normal, usual selves!

Matthew is starting third grade and he says that he doesn't "love school" but I can tell he enjoys it very much too!  :)  Boys!  He woke up yesterday morning fast.  He ate his French toast fast and was dressed in a flash.  It only took him about 20 minutes.  He thought it was ridiculous that Hadassah took so long to get ready.  :)  Girls!  When the bus finally pulled up to the driveway, he was stoked!  He enjoyed his first day and after returning home after lunch, he seemed a tad bored already.  School is so good for him.  It stretches his mind and gets him into books.  Something he does not like to do naturally!  Outdoor play is still his main interest!

The fog was heavy in the morning.  The bus pulled up and the kids were off ...

Ashlyn was still sleeping when they left for school and so when she woke up, she of course asked for Matthew.  Then Hadassah.  It was quiet and she enjoyed some play time with just her and I.  It will take some adjustments again to the school schedule and when the chilly air comes to stay, I will be ready for the early to bed and early to rise life style.  I said good bye to my sleeping in mornings and hello to a better bed time schedule!!!

We are so blessed to have such a great Christian school nearby that teaches about God and Christian values!  We are looking forwards to another wonderful year of schooling and learning!

In the good 'ole summertime!

It's summer time.  It's August and we have been busy.  Busy with fun events which involved a lot of work.  Hard work.  The kind of work that even keeps us still resting today from the weekend!  (And it's Tuesday!  :)  )

Mike serves on our church missions board.  This past weekend we had a fundraiser for the Nicaragua Project that church is organizing.  For years now, we have had groups go to Nic and serve the people there.  We built a church, homes, painted, visited orphanages, bought a farm there and are trying hard to help the people learn how to grow their own vegetables, and the most important thing of all ... TELL THEM ABOUT JESUS!!!

I went to Nicaragua when I was a teenager and really enjoyed it.  I have no excuses to not have returned back to this beautiful country.  Mike, on the other hand, has been there several times.  We actually have a few men from church leaving this week to go and see/organize some mission projects for this upcoming winter.  Winter seems to be the time most people want to go and serve.  It works good with slower businesses and going some place warm is always appealing in the dead of winter!!!  :)

Our second fundraiser all began on Friday.  (Well, lots of planning and ordering were done way before this.)  Those on the missions board meet at lunch time and started to unload foods, tables, and everything else that makes a fundraiser work!  Hadassah and Matthew really helped out!  (Thanks Erma for caring for Ashlyn!  She really loved Alaina's house!  :)  )

So many folks commented that the food at this tournament/fundraiser was the best.  I, of course, have to agree because we've got the best cooks!  Fresh pressed hamburgers beats any other kind of burger by far!!!  Fresh yogurt parfaits with creamy yogurt and fresh berries is awesome!  Sausage sandwiches with homemade sauce and grilled onions ... yes please!  Fresh fruit!  Root beer floats!  And, and yummy, yummy wings!  Smoothies!  And so much more!!!

We had the young girls cut fruit and make the yogurt parfaits.
Yep ... they were made perfect!!!  :)

Fruit cup ... and our wing cook!

Fresh cut potatoes for French fries ... smoothie stand!

Mike set up the canopy for the umpires to rest and hang out in!  He did a great job getting the umpires and organizing their times!  Proud of you Hun!

Enjoying the moment before umping yet another ballgame in the warm sun!

The weekend of ball tournaments and serving food was all for missions!  What a fun way to serve for the cause of Christ!!!

Thanks to all you who helped make this fundraiser a success!!!

If anyone is interested in visiting Nicaragua this winter, please let me know.  I can provide some information to you!

We are so blessed here in America!!!
