My photo challenge for today is "Peace"!
I'm mulling this word around in my mind all morning. I'm a "real life" person and so of course I try to visualize the whole Christmas story as how it must have really been! And I'm finding it hard to see Peace in it. I mean, here you have a young girl that's pregnant for the first time ever and through the Holy Ghost. I'm sure she asked may questions in her mind and surely she was even afraid is she took her mind off of the angels words. The Son of God was coming to this earth through her. Because we have the story written in scripture from beginning to end, we know how it all went long ago. But Mary and Joseph lived in a time where people worked hard. Life was a survival for most of them and not luxury around every corner. When the census went out to have everyone had to go to their hometown to be taxed, I can't help but think they wondered, "Why now?" Mary was getting closer to her due date and to travel that far, away from her mom and familiar surroundings, must have been a step of faith. To go. To travel. To not know that the inns would be maxed out and that they would end up in some cold, dark cave to finally let Mary rest and breathe deep though those contractions. This doesn't sound peaceful, it sounds hard. But in the darkest and hardest journey for them right then, God did send a heavenly Host of angels and declared, "Glory to God in the Highest and on earth PEACE goodwill to men." The angles sang that night when Jesus was born! Jesus did bring that peace that the whole world was needing ! Forgiveness of my sins. Peace through those storms in my life. Peace for our friends that are still fighting against the horrible disease called cancer. Peace for the sick and lying in the hospital. Inner peace for those families that buried loved ones this past year. Peace for the widows and widowers. He longs to give peace to those with broken hearts! Joseph and Mary were able to run for their lives with peace when they were told to flee to Egypt because the King wanted the newborn KING killed. When I remember that God has the best, the bestest plan ever for His children, that gives hope and peace!
So, may God give you peace tonight and throughout the holiday!!! Peace really did come to earth!
