Baptism for Matthew and Ashlyn!

At the beginning of the summer, Matthew and Ashlyn both said they would like to get baptized at the next baptism at church!  This is the best decision anyone could make and Mike and I were blessed over and over again to watch these two go through the baptism classes Sunday morning, write out their testimonies, share them with the class and publicly and then get baptized in a pond!!!

It was a gorgeous, hot day!  Nine people were in the class and all nine got baptized!

Each person shared their testimony before getting baptized!

We are so proud of her!!!  Go be a world changer Ashlyn!!!  You are a child of God!!!!

We gave her a necklace that says, "You are a child of God."  She wore that and her strong/confidence shirt!

Matthew shared his testimony and he enjoyed the classes with the baptism class and we are so proud of the choices he is making as a young man!!!  We love you Matt and are just so proud of you!  Follow God's leading and you will be a world changer!

"I have decided to follow to Jesus!  No turning back, no turning back!"

We had supper on the farm with our church family and with our family that attended the baptism.

"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  Romans 10:9

This is such a celebration for our family!  May God get all the glory!

Back to school.

We are back in the classrooms at school but wow it's been a journey to get through each day!!!  This is one reason why I still blog because if I don't journal this, I might forget these days!!!!  This has sure been a doozie of the first five days of school!

We've already had the chance to discuss new bus rides.  We have great bus times this year but Ashlyn and Austin are used to carpooling to school the past few years and it's taking a bit to find their bus seat, buckle their seat belts and be on their way to school on the bus.  We had to discuss classroom rules because it is not acceptable to talk when the teacher talks, look at your own paper when doing school papers and being respectful in music class!  The kids all have new school friends in their classes and it's a great reminder to include the new and old friends in your activities!  We've packed some lunches and even had call out AAA to unlock a truck door!!!

The first morning Ashlyn said she will ride the bus to school because Austin was not feeling it by himself.  This was Austin's first time being picked up by a bus at home and going to school!  But Ashlyn was not very impressed with getting to school a few minutes late.  The bus routes are full of grace the first few weeks of school and their bus arrived at school a few mixtures late.  School was cool with it of course because it may take a few days for the drivers to know their routes and exact times!  After the kids were on the bus I came inside to see Matthew dumping out old papers, books, pens, etc. out of his backpack and I gasped!  I said, "Matthew we didn't even go school shopping for you!!!  Do you have all you need for today?"  He laughed and said yeah and out the door he went to school!  How could I forget to get him new pencils, papers, etc.???  He's a senior this year and it's not really a big deal but we should make sure he has all he needs right???  He's driving down the road and calls me.  "Mom, I forgot my golf shoes in the garage.  Can you bring them to school?  We have golf practice today."  Sure, dude.  I have a meeting at The Houston Cafe at 10.  I'll drop them off!

Ashlyn wasn't really into the late bus thing, so the next morning, she decided to ride to school with Matthew.  I thought this would originally be her ride to and from school but with such good bus times, she wanted to try it out on day one.  Day two, I told her to go put her backpack in Matthew's truck and be ready for Matthew when he says it's time to leave.  She thought she pushed the unlock button but instead pushed the lock button.  When she went over to the passenger door, everything was locked.  Matthew wasn't real cool with this and tried to use a hanger, etc. but after sending a screw driver flying in the garage, he cooled down and they drove the Jetta car to school.  They went flying down the road so they are not late and I prayed they would make it safe and sound to school!  I called AAA and they came out to unlock the door and then I had to drive to school to give Matthew his back pack because it was locked in his truck.

Day three, we all got to school on time but Austin came home in tears because he said he wasn't being quite in class.  We talked about when to talk, when to not talk.  When to sit still and then at recess you can run around!!!!  It's a new school term and all the reminders are happening for this sweet boy!

We had the weekend to sleep in and what a great day it was on Saturday to go to The Houston's Cafe Car Show event!!!!  The cars were so cool!  The food was great and it was a blast watching so many cars burn out when leaving the event!

Sunday was such a beautiful day!!!!  Matthew and Ashlyn have decided to get baptized and after a month of baptism classes, lots of good discussions and writing out both of their testimonies, they were prepared and ready!  I want to do a whole post on this event because it is so wonderful, such a blessing, humbling to watch our children make such good decisions in their young lives!!!!  (See a post coming soon!)

We are now in the start of a new week and it's Monday.  We woke up, got ready for school and the kids were just getting their shoes on when Austin said, "There's the bus!!!"  What???  I ran outside and hollered, "They are coming!" but it was too late!  The bus pulled away and the kids just missed their ride to school.  We laughed!  Here we go with the first day of the school week and they missed the bus!  We all just laughed as they threw their backpacks in the Audi and I drove them off to school.  Matthew had golf today with the school golf team and had to pick up another golfer on the way to school, so he was on his way too.  I'm thankful for options this year with our travels to and from school!  I guess this morning, I was the driver.  One of these days we will get our act together and everything will go as planned!

Happy Monday!

After the car show, we went to the club pool one last time for the summer.  The Littles wanted to hit some tennis balls and then swim, so we did just that!

First day of 2022/23 school!!!!

The first day of school is here!  The kids were excited after we visited their classes yesterday, said hello to the new teachers and talk about how this year will look for our family this school term!

Ashlyn seemed a bit nervous because she is moving up to Upper School which means a new school building for her, new teachers, multiple teachers each day and riding to school with Matthew!  After we walked through the school, she seemed at home and ready to start her sixth grade year!

Austin is excited about a new teacher for second grade and it was only him and I driving to school this morning together.  I had to hold back emotions as I watched Matthew drive off with Ashlyn with him.  Both of them are in upper school now.  Senior and sixth graders.

We normally carpool with Lena but this year we got really good bus times.  I think we are going to try that new adventure and send the kids on the bus!  We have lots to be thankful for!

Ready and set for a good year!

It was really weird to have just Austin and I in the Audi this morning.  It was also really weird watching the older school kids drive off to upper school.

Pinterest has the best ideas!!!!

We pulled into elementary and kids were walking in and teachers were welcoming everyone!  We love this school family!

It's so good to see the kids see their school friends again!

Austin is going to do great in second grade!

Ashlyn was so excited to see her school friends again!

It's a challenge to get photos of the Senior boy mostly because I don't follow him around like I do the little ones but I was blessed to see all the high school kids together in the school yard while I was on my way to a hot lunch meeting at The Houston Cafe!

We had a good start to a good year with the best of teachers!!!!!

Back to the beach!!!

We went to the beach!!!!  It was good to be back!  We haven't been to a local beach since COVID and it was so fun to watch the kids play in the sand, jump in the waves and feel that ocean breeze!

Ashlyn loved the waves!!!!  She was in the water so much of the day!!!!  We had wild crazy waves to ride, jump in and have splash up against us!  It was a gorgeous day on the beach!

The boys took turns being buried in the sand!

A beach trip isn't compete without ice cream!!!!!

It was a lot to watch with five kids in the ocean but they had a blast!!!!!  When Lena texted me last week asking if we want to join them at the beach for a day, I was into it.  A few weeks ago, my family was trying to get some beach dates together but it was SO HOT, TOO HOT to think beach for me.  But the weather is much nicer the past week and I was into seeing the beach again!  We drove to Ocean Grove, NJ, in the morning, got there and set up chairs and had a blast the rest of the day!  We never got back home till 9:30 that night!

Ashlyn and Austin both loved the beach!  Playing on the sand with cousins is so fun!

The cutest kids!!!!

The cousin crew had a full, fun beach day!!!!

Summer is winding down.

It's still August but the end of this month, it's time to start thinking about going back to school.  The middle school principle, Dr. Hurst, planned a Western Back To School night.  This was a fun night to see old friends, meet new ones and meet new teachers!  Themed parties are always a fun way to kick things off in fun fashion!!!!

The mechanical bull was a highlight!

After the school event, we rushed off to Ashlyn and Matthew's baptism class.  Both of them are getting baptized soon and they were sharing their testimonies this night!  Mike and I are so happy and blessed to watch our children make good decisions like this!!!!  Praise the Lord!

We planted watermelon in the garden.  Ashlyn carried one of the ripe watermelons inside the other day and we cut it open!  At first Austin was not happy about all the black seeds inside but when they had a seed spitting contest, it wasn't so bad after all!!!!

They have so much fun together!!!!

And then there's marinara sauce days.  We have so many tomatoes in the garden this year that I had enough to make a double batch of marinara sauce!

I love to cross off big canning days like this!  It's the best sound hearing those cans seal!

I had a really busy day in the kitchen with a double batch of marinara sauce cooking and sourdough bread rising and baking and cooking up some pasta so the family has an easy meal of pasta, chicken and sauce to eat as they ride off to horse riding lessons!  Mike told Ashlyn that if she really wants a horse, she needs to take some horse lessons first!  So we signed the kids up and Mike takes them to each lesson!

I've been having fun trying new recipes!  The herb bread is a good one!  I cut fresh rosemary, thyme and oregano from our herb box and mix it into the dough!  This week I also made a cinnamon sugar and a chocolate with espresso beans!  This is delicious toast and so delicious with butter and jelly!

We are hanging on to summer but we are getting excited to start thinking about the new school year starting soon!
