We are back in the classrooms at school but wow it's been a journey to get through each day!!! This is one reason why I still blog because if I don't journal this, I might forget these days!!!! This has sure been a doozie of the first five days of school!
We've already had the chance to discuss new bus rides. We have great bus times this year but Ashlyn and Austin are used to carpooling to school the past few years and it's taking a bit to find their bus seat, buckle their seat belts and be on their way to school on the bus. We had to discuss classroom rules because it is not acceptable to talk when the teacher talks, look at your own paper when doing school papers and being respectful in music class! The kids all have new school friends in their classes and it's a great reminder to include the new and old friends in your activities! We've packed some lunches and even had call out AAA to unlock a truck door!!!
The first morning Ashlyn said she will ride the bus to school because Austin was not feeling it by himself. This was Austin's first time being picked up by a bus at home and going to school! But Ashlyn was not very impressed with getting to school a few minutes late. The bus routes are full of grace the first few weeks of school and their bus arrived at school a few mixtures late. School was cool with it of course because it may take a few days for the drivers to know their routes and exact times! After the kids were on the bus I came inside to see Matthew dumping out old papers, books, pens, etc. out of his backpack and I gasped! I said, "Matthew we didn't even go school shopping for you!!! Do you have all you need for today?" He laughed and said yeah and out the door he went to school! How could I forget to get him new pencils, papers, etc.??? He's a senior this year and it's not really a big deal but we should make sure he has all he needs right??? He's driving down the road and calls me. "Mom, I forgot my golf shoes in the garage. Can you bring them to school? We have golf practice today." Sure, dude. I have a meeting at The Houston Cafe at 10. I'll drop them off!
Ashlyn wasn't really into the late bus thing, so the next morning, she decided to ride to school with Matthew. I thought this would originally be her ride to and from school but with such good bus times, she wanted to try it out on day one. Day two, I told her to go put her backpack in Matthew's truck and be ready for Matthew when he says it's time to leave. She thought she pushed the unlock button but instead pushed the lock button. When she went over to the passenger door, everything was locked. Matthew wasn't real cool with this and tried to use a hanger, etc. but after sending a screw driver flying in the garage, he cooled down and they drove the Jetta car to school. They went flying down the road so they are not late and I prayed they would make it safe and sound to school! I called AAA and they came out to unlock the door and then I had to drive to school to give Matthew his back pack because it was locked in his truck.
Day three, we all got to school on time but Austin came home in tears because he said he wasn't being quite in class. We talked about when to talk, when to not talk. When to sit still and then at recess you can run around!!!! It's a new school term and all the reminders are happening for this sweet boy!
We had the weekend to sleep in and what a great day it was on Saturday to go to The Houston's Cafe Car Show event!!!! The cars were so cool! The food was great and it was a blast watching so many cars burn out when leaving the event!
Sunday was such a beautiful day!!!! Matthew and Ashlyn have decided to get baptized and after a month of baptism classes, lots of good discussions and writing out both of their testimonies, they were prepared and ready! I want to do a whole post on this event because it is so wonderful, such a blessing, humbling to watch our children make such good decisions in their young lives!!!! (See a post coming soon!)
We are now in the start of a new week and it's Monday. We woke up, got ready for school and the kids were just getting their shoes on when Austin said, "There's the bus!!!" What??? I ran outside and hollered, "They are coming!" but it was too late! The bus pulled away and the kids just missed their ride to school. We laughed! Here we go with the first day of the school week and they missed the bus! We all just laughed as they threw their backpacks in the Audi and I drove them off to school. Matthew had golf today with the school golf team and had to pick up another golfer on the way to school, so he was on his way too. I'm thankful for options this year with our travels to and from school! I guess this morning, I was the driver. One of these days we will get our act together and everything will go as planned!
Happy Monday!
After the car show, we went to the club pool one last time for the summer. The Littles wanted to hit some tennis balls and then swim, so we did just that!
