Summer foods are the best!!!! We live in a rich community where there are big gardens and plenty of foods to sell and share! There are road side stands with fresh fruits and veggies all around! We are incredibly blessed!
We also have a garden of our own here at our house! I love to plant things and watch it grow! Ashlyn is my side kick! We planted some old favorites and some new foods for us!
Cucumbers is a favorite vegetable around this home! We ALL love them and our pickle patch is thriving! I planted three different types. Suyo, bush and another small kind. All three are great eats and make the best refrigerator pickles!
Last summer, I grabbed some fresh lavender plants and our bunny loved to sit along Ashlyn's playhouse! It was so cute. This year, the lavender plants are large and smell so amazing!
Broccoli is a new grower for us! Austin loves broccoli and once at a restaurant he ordered broccoli and ate it like it was candy. I planted four plants and they turned out nice! Austin had his treat from the garden!
Fennel ... we tried it again and the tender greens are really strong but surprisingly tasty! I really don't know why my favorite part of fennel doesn't grow for me because I love the white bulb! It tastes like licorse and so refreshing to my taste buds. But, just like last year, the plant is growing huge but the bulb in the dirt is tiny. Sigh.
Our watermelon patch is wanting to grow way beyond it's boundaries and the fruit is growing on it! We can't wait to eat some watermelon in a few weeks!
On a side note, Mike and I snuck out of the house last Sunday and visited a car show nearby! I love that we do little fun outings like this!!!!
The club pool is up and running now!!! Renovations took some time but we can now swim in a brand new facility and the food was served so neatly! We can't wait to go back!!!!!
Here are the garden goodies right now! String beans are just beginning and between Ashlyn and I, we are busy munching as we pick them!
We were so sad and grieved with our dear friends when we heard about Tot's fatal car accident. Her story is actually amazing and even though called her home way too soon (in our human minds), good things are taking place! That's how God works. Not always the way we wish for or hope for but it's good. We stood in the cemetery as Bryan and Karen buried their beloved daughter. Please say a prayer for this family as they start a new lifestyle without Tot in their home and lives.
Road side favorites!!!!
Zucchini is growing too! We love to make bread with it!
Another side note, we made a visit to the library and grabbed some books and movies! I have a love/hate with the library because we just can't seem to visit without some sort of bill! When we arrived and checked out our things, I had to pay $9 from last years summer books. New goal ..... be library fine free this summer!!!! How hard can it be, right????
Summer is flying by just like it usually does! We've got a few fun things coming up yet before school begins in less than four weeks. Bring on more fun summer days!!!!!
