Flowers!!!

I went flower shopping yesterday and what a blast!!!  It was just mom and I and thank goodness too ... because the two of us bought so many flowers, it packed our vehicle!  We were full to the rim!!!

Greenhouses are like a breath of fresh air to me.  I ABSOLUTELY love them!!!  We are blessed beyond blessed in our area to have lots to visit, to see, and to compare prices!

Mom and I left yesterday morning with great anticipation!  I hadn't bought any flowers yet and was anxious to go see what I could find.  I always go with lots of petunias!  I think they are so pretty!  I plant a bunch too!  We both grabbed a cart and went isle to isle "ewwwing and ahhhing".  Mom would say, "Come look at these."  Then I would say, "Aren't these gorgeous?"  I ended up with cart #2!  (You can't stack flowers very easily you know!!!)  I also bought some more vegetables for our garden!  Peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and one jalapeno plant!

We carefully loaded up all our flowers and then stopped at a place that has antiques, etc..  I was wanting to find a shelf or something to put on my back porch, but as we pulled in the driveway I said, "Mom, if I do find something, we have no room to take it along!"  I did manage to find a small wood bin that I used for a planter and a very small wire I put my herbs into.  I had to hold it though on the way back home.  We stopped for lunch and then unloaded all my plants in my garage!  I couldn't wait to start planting!

It was 87 degrees outside!!!  Gorgeous!  Warm!!!  A little windy.  I dug small holes in the ground and carefully planted my flowers!  Even though I bought a lot, I knew that once I had them planted, I would probably need a few more.  (Yes, another chance to visit another greenhouse!!!)

Here's are some of my buys from yesterday ....

These are my FAV!!!!  They are called "Glow Forest Fire" petunia!  So brilliant!  The yellow petunia is "Sunray".
This is a "Papaya" petunia and yellow daisy.
This "Dragon Wing Begonia" has a great color of red and a very nice green leaf!  The orange 'climber' is in the black eyed susan vine family.  Very bright orange color!
 Salvia ... orange daisy!
This is that "Glow Forest Fire" petunia and I planted these in my window boxes with yellow tiny petunias.  The flower on the right is another petunia called "Supercal Pink Ice"!

The hanging basket is filled with a mix of favs!!!
This color is "SuperCal Terra Cotta".

I have a bank out front that I am going to plant some "Supertunia Vista Fuchsia" and "Supertunia Royal Velvet" petunia's.  They are like a bubble gum pink and a deep purple color!!!

Our dogwood tree is blooming!
I bought some herbs yesterday too and planted them in small pots.  Also, my radishes will be ready for eating soon!
Onions are growing ... lettuce is just about ready to pick!
Spinach and cut lettuce will be munched on soon too!!!

This is a "must have" summer drink at our house!!!  Meadow tea is an herb that grows on stems and spreads a lot!  You pick a big hand full of the leaves, wash them, and cook them in 8 cups of boiling water for 10 minutes.  Put one cup of sugar (give or take for your taste choice) in a gallon glass jar and pour your tea concentrate in your jar.  Fill the rest with cold water.  Cool as fast as possible!  (That's the secret to good tea!  My mom gets lots of complements on her tea and I think it's because she gets it cold fast!  I have a very cold water cooler in my garage and I use it the most during the summer!  It keeps milk, tea, soda's ... well just about anything very cold!)  This tea is so yummy and I made our first gallon on Saturday!

This glass full was for my hubby right before he left for the afternoon to play golf.  He deserves an afternoon off because he worked his butt off this past weekend with their customer appreciation days!  (Even if he didn't deserve it ... I try to always bless him when he gets some free hours of leisure!)  The warm afternoon was perfect for his golf craving!!!

I had all the windows open yesterday and most of them today already!  I love feeling the
breeze going through the house and that reminds me that summer is coming!

Enjoy your day and take time to thank God for your blessings!

Communion Sunday ...

Today, we had communion service at church.  It's a resemblance of what Christ did for me on the cross.  Once again, my thoughts were about the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  We always, at church, have the message based on the life of Christ when we have communion.  It's the most bitter, sweet story I have ever heard and believe.

We were taken through the beginning stages of Jesus' ministry.  How when Satan tempted Jesus while He was fasting for forty days and nights.  Three times Satan tried to tempt Jesus to sin, but each time Jesus resisted him and never sinned.

I Cor. 10:13 - "There hath no temptation taken you but soon as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

Then it was preached of when Jesus called His disciples.  The Bible doesn't give us the back stage character thoughts because that is not important for us to know, but I wonder what the father's of these fishermen thought.  Here comes Jesus and calls some men to, "Follow me and I will make you fisher's of men."  Did the dad's know by just looking into the precious eyes of Jesus that that was the right thing for their sons to follow?  Did they encourage or try to keep them within the family business of fishing with nets in the sea?  One thing is for sure that the twelve disciples that Jesus did call to follow Him, had no idea what it would all cost them when they said "Yes" to that calling.  The next three years were all about teachings and life lessons that they never heard of before.

Jesus taught about the heart!  About loving your brothers as much as yourself.  About dying to self and putting on a new man in Christ.  He healed the blind man that was begging and begging for Jesus to come and touch him.  Why?  Because he knew that if Jesus would come to him, he would be healed and be able to see.  He believed.  Jesus healed the lame man that was so sick and weak that his friends lowered him down through a roof ... just to get to Jesus!  Why?  Because they knew that if Jesus would touch him, he too would be healed and walk again!  They believed!!!  They had faith!

We may try ... but we can never get away from Jesus.  They crucified Him.  He was buried.  He arose ... because the grave could not hold him no more!!!  He is alive!  We can do as they did and try to get or keep Him out of our lives, but He proved it on the cross that He lives forever!!!  The crowd got caught up in the trial of Jesus and were yelling "Crucify Him" when actually, some may have not even known the whole story.  Do we do that?  Do we criticize someone when we don't "know their story"?  These are some things that were challenging to us today in our service.

We took of the bread and wine, washed one anothers feet, and then had a chance to give to alms.  The morning hours went fast and were refreshing!

+++++
Here are some highlights of our family happenings this past week ...

I have tried often to feed this little girl mashed potatoes, but she never really seemed to dig in!  She looked to see if something else was offered and then choose that instead.  Yet, she loves just regular potatoes.  This week, I put some mashed potatoes in a small bowl and set it in front of her.  Free for all!  Help yourself!  And she did!  What a mess!!!

Yesterday, the kids and I went yard saleing and we had a blast!  Yard saleing is not for me if I have three youngsters tagging behind, because I like to be fast.  In and out and be quick with the selections, because the yard sales that I like to attend are developments!  One house after the next style!!!

Well, because Mike had his customer appreciations days at work Friday and Saturday, he was not able to babysit.  My options were else ... stay home or take all three?  Ashlyn is an early bird, so after she was awake I woke the two older and out the door we went!  An adventure for sure!  They love to yard sale just as much as I do.  We did great!  They each took turns staying in the van with baby, took turns bringing her out too, and we all had a wonderful time finding lots of deals!!!  Lots!!!  So glad we went!!!

When we got back home, I was cleaning out the van from cracker crumbs, smashed fruit loops, and toast crumbs.  We also had two banana's that got bruised during our morning shopping!  I choose to make banana bars with them.  These are so tasty and when as I pulled the hot tray out of the oven, the kids came bouncing into the house sniffing and enjoying the yummy aroma!  I did top these with frosting after they cooled!  Yum!  Really!

 1/2 cup soft butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2-3 ripe bananas
Mix all together and pour into a bar pan.  Bake at 350 for 30 - 35 minutes.

Icing:
1 pack cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup soft butter
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cup 10x sugar
Spread on top of cooled bars!  Enjoy!

Mike and I have eaten at 'our new favorite restaurant' only a few times so far ... Chipotle!  They have the best guacamole in town.  I always turned down this food all my life because it always looked disgusting to me.  When I actually tried it, it was good!  I made some of my own and Mike thought the lime juice was a little strong, so I will try again soon!  We ate this with tortilla chips!  It's great with burritos or any Mexican food!

1 large avocado
2 tsp. fresh lime juice
2 Tb. cilantro
1/4 cup chopped red onion (I didn't add this.)
2 garlic cloves
1 Serrano chili (Didn't add this either.)
1 tsp. salt

I guess this was the week for recipes!  Matthew's class celebrated his birthday on Friday, but his real birthday date isn't till July.  He choose for me to make two large cookies pizza's!  They loved them to say the least!  I topped it with some icing and two four wheelers!

+++++
We had a chilly week and tempts hardly got out of the 50's.  Today, it quite different!  We have 81 degrees and tomorrow is fore casted to 86!  Talk about extremes for here!  I love it though.  My outside work kinda went on hold because of the cooler weather.  I just don't enjoy working outside when it's cold.  My weeds just had to wait!  Now, tomorrow I am hoping to get to some greenhouses and buy some flowers!  I am excited about that!!!

My running went on a short hold too.  One, because of the cold weather.  Two, because I have been dealing with some throat issues.  It's not a cold, but sometimes my throat felt sore and dry.  I had a deep cough that brought up some nasty mucus!  Finally, by Thursday, the afternoon sun felt warm enough to run.  I started out running our 3 mile block, but when I was almost back home, I decided to go one more mile!  My accomplishment felt like gold!!!  My first 4 miles!  I ran my first 5K!!!  Running a little more at a time is my way of running.  I am not a good self motivator and I usually convince myself that my two miles daily is good enough.  But, when I get the urge to go farther, I must do it with determination!  My mind, body and soul feels refreshed after I get back home!

We are now off to hang out with friends!!!  Enjoy the warmer weather again!!!  Out of here ...

Easter ~ 2012

The kids had school Easter parties.
Each class did an egg hunt and an Easter project that reflected the cross.

Hadassah loves her girlfriends at school!!!  Here are just a few of them ...
 Meet the fourth grade class!!!

We also spent the weekend at the cabin.  Our like Matthew would say, "Cabins."  Hadassah and Matthew left on Thursday night already and traveled with my parents and my sister's family.  They could not hardly wait till this day would come and they were looking forwards to a few days in the woods with their cousins!  Mike, Ashlyn and I didn't leave till Saturday morning.  We had a great time and because it was Easter, all the kids got a gift.  A big chocolate bunny!

... Matthew, Tyler & Ryan ...
The girls ... Hadassah, Morgan, Melanie & Megan.  Ashlyn got a bunny too but she was taking her nap.
This is Ashlyn's bunny and her little chocolate chick ...
The kids also painted some hard boiled eggs and had an egg hunt.  Hadassah and Matthew had filled some plastic eggs before leaving for the cabin.  It was a cute hunt and fun!

This bigger bunny was for Daudy!  From:  Mommy!
He loves candy and chocolate!  This should be plenty for now!
The kids made a tepee in the woods.  The boys hauled lots of big sticks and logs and placed them just right around in a circle.  The girls helped too and made a path around the whole thing.
Because the cabin in the mountains is a few hours north, it was not as green as around here.  The buds were just starting and the grass had just a tint of green.  I thought the branches looked cool from just starting to turn green.
There is a mission close to the cabin.  They have this path that you can walk.  It takes you up a hill and at the very top, there is a cross!  I was looking forward to doing this walk and just looking at the cross again.  There is something about actually looking at a cross high in the air.  Perfect for the Easter setting!  "Thank you Jesus for dying for me!"

Mike and I at the top of the hill and gazing at the cross and blue skies!

We now have tons of chocolate around the house.  I am glad it's chocolate instead of gummy candy though.  The kids has plenty of sweets at the mountains and I said that it's only fruits and vegetables for the next day ... no, not really.  I did say it but didn't mean it.  A small piece at a time is just fine.

Our weather turned cooler and it now feels more like spring instead of summer.  I love the warmer days though but seem to 'not be so busy' with the cooler tempts!  The radishes are popping through the dirt and the lettuce will be ready to pick soon!  My annual flowers are not yet bought or planted.  The mulch is not order or finished.  But ... the grass is green, most of the weeds are pulled, and the edging is complete!  Spring time is great and I am so blessed!

To end this post ... here's a cute picture of Ashlyn a few weeks back!  We just love this smile!!!

Can you imagine? (Part four)

We were off to the cabin for the weekend and being without Internet and poor phone service, my version of part four had to wait till today.  That's OK though, because the time at the mountains, relaxing, and spending time with my family was great!!!  (Mountain pics will be posted maybe later today?!)

+++++

We left off at the where the ladies that went to the tomb to put the burial spices they prepared on the body of Jesus, found a very different outcome!  When they arrived at the tomb, the huge stone was rolled away and there were angels at the entrance.  They were afraid.  They have possibly never seen such a bright light.  Mary might have known immediately that "this is a God thing" because she would have had encounters like these before.?.  That bright light probably brought back some warm feelings deep into her soul!

The angel told the women to come see the empty tomb.  They place where Jesus was laid dead now was just an empty spot.  Then the angel said to them, "Go quickly, and tell his disciples that He is risen from the dead; and, behold, He goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see Him:  lo, I have told you."

The ladies took off running to tell the disciples about this great happening!  I wonder if they dropped their carefully made spices on the ground, dug their heals in the dust, and went running?  Or did they stand there in shock thinking about how all this must have taken place before telling the disciples?  One thing for sure, they knew what they were told and the saw that Jesus was no longer in the grave!  They ran to tell the disciples.  In Matthew 28:9, it tells us that when the women left the sepulchre "with fear and great joy", Jesus met them.  He said, "All hail."  The ladies ran to Him and grabbed His feet and worshipped Him.  Jesus said, "Be not afraid:  go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me."

While the ladies were off to find the disciples and tell them about this wonderful news, some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests what had just happened!  Oh to the see the faces of these guys when they were told this would have great!  I bet they got mad!  They probably blamed the guards for not doing their job right!  They had to wonder "what next"?  Well, they got all the elders and the counsel together and came up with a quick plan.  They gave the soldiers a large sum of money and told them this, "Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole Him away while we slept."  They made up a story!  They rehearsed this plan with the soldiers probably over and over to make sure they got the false story right.  I am sure the soldiers asked a lot of questions.  Every time you make up a lie, you have to keep making up lies to cover up the true happenings.  I can't imagine what was all gossiped and spread with this make belief story!  It says in the Bible though that they took the money and did as they were taught!  It also says that "this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day."  Some still believe that this is really what happened!

When the women finally got to the disciples,  they didn't believe them.  It says, "their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not."  These men have seen a lot in the past few days and now yet to believe this story was asking a lot for them to believe ... so they thought!  It was true!  I can just imagine the ladies believing with all their heart what had just happened and now to get this in the heads and hearts of these men might be tough to do!

Well, leave it Peter and John, because they were off in a flash to look for themselves!  Jesus has done so many things right before their very eyes and He did say He would rise again!  They would have to go and see!  Could it really be true?  Peter and John ran together to the tomb but the closer they got, John took off ahead of Peter.  John got there first.  Puffing from running so fast.  His heart nearly beating out of chest!  I love this part because it's so comical about what we know of Peter's personally.  John stooped down at the tomb entrance and was looking in.  He saw the linen clothes laying there empty.  But he didn't go inside.  Just then Peter comes running up from behind.  No stopping him, he went right into the empty tomb!  He was going to see, to feel, to look, and possibly believe!  Peter looked around carefully, still out of breath from running so fast!  He too saw the linen clothe empty.  He saw the napkin that was used to wrap around Jesus head, but wait!  The napkin wasn't beside the linen clothe.  It was "wrapped together in a place by itself."  By now, John came inside the tomb to observe.  When he saw, he believed.  I don't know what the conservation was between these two men, but surely they were amazed.  Surely they had many questions!  What do they do now?  Scripture says that they went back to their own homes.  What might have been the talk in their homes?  I know that when the ladies and these two men got together, they knew the truth!  Jesus did arise from the dead!  But where was He now?  What is going to happen next?

After Peter and John left the garden on the empty tomb, Mary was left standing alone at the tomb.  She must have went back after Peter and John went to see.  Mary was weeping.  As she was crying, she stooped down and looked once again into the tomb.  What was she looking for?  Did she just have to again take another look?  Was He really gone?  As she gazed into the empty tomb, she saw two angels.  They were white.  One was sitting at the head of where Jesus was laid and the other at the feet.  They spoke to her and said, "Woman, why weepest thou?"  She answered with this, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him."

This dear lady was so torn up inside!  She loved Jesus and wanted with her heart to anoint Him with the special spices and care for His dead, bruised body.  (As I am typing down my feelings here, I am thinking about this deep love Mary really had for Jesus.  Why was she so willing to care for His dead body?  It was probably starting to get stinky and decayed.  This was day three after He died.  Would I have been this desperate?)  She was crying so hard because now she didn't know where the body was.  Jesus was beaten so much and so bad, she probably had a terrible feeling of what those cold hearted men must have done now to her Lord's dead body.  But, Jesus showed up!!!  After she said that to the angels, she turned herself around and there stood Jesus.  Her eyes were still full of tears and she didn't even know it was Jesus right in front of her.

Jesus said to her, "Women, why weepest thou?  Whom seekest thou?"  Mary thought that this must be the gardener and said to him, "Sir, if thou have borne Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away."  She was serious!  She wanted to make sure her Lord's body was properly cared for and buried!  I love her determination but if only she would have believed what she was told earlier.  Why was she still seeking for the dead body when she was told that He was alive!  That's when Jesus said to her, "Mary."  She turned herself around again and said to Him, "Rabboni."  That means Master.  Jesus said to her, "Tounch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father:  but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God."  She did exactly what Jesus told her to do.  She went and told the disciples that she had seen Jesus.  She told them what He said to her.

It says in Luke that two of them went to a village called Emmaus.  As they walked the dusty roads, Jesus walked up to them but they didn't know it was Him.  Jesus asked them why they looked so sad?  Cleopas looked at Him and asked, "Are you a stranger from around here?  Do you not know what going on in the past few days?"  Jesus asked, "What things?"  They told Jesus all what had happened!  The beatings.  The crucifixion.  They told Him that they trusted that Jesus would be their new ruler and redeem Israel.  And then to top it off, they told Him about what had just happened this morning ... the tomb is empty.  They couldn't find His body.  They said there were angels involved.  The angels said that Jesus was alive.  Jesus starting talking to them too and beginning at Moses he talked about the scriptures.  When they were almost at the village, they noticed that Jesus was going to keep traveling.  They asked Him to stay with them for the evening and He did.  That night, when they sat down to eat supper, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them.  Suddenly, their eyes were opened and they realized that this man they have been with all afternoon was Jesus himself!!!  When they realized, the Bible says, "He vanished out of their sight."  They knew then why their hearts burned as He spoke to them as they journeyed.  They got up and walked right back to Jerusalem.  They found the eleven disciples and said, "The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon."  They also told them their story of Jesus walking with them and how after He broke the bread, that's when they knew it was Him too!

While they were still talking, Jesus himself stood in the middle of them.  He said, "Peace be unto you."  They were terrified and thought that He was a ghost.  He said to them, "Why are ye troubled?  And why do thoughts arise in your hearts?  Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself:  handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."  As He spoke to them, He showed them His hands and feet.  They still didn't believe and Jesus then said, "Have ye here any meat?"  They gave Him a piece of broiled fish and a honeycomb and watched as He ate it.  He said, "These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me."  Then Jesus opened their understanding.  He said, "Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day;  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name amoung all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  And ye are witnessed of these things.  And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you;  but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."

He lead them out to Bethany and lifted up His hands and blessed them.  While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.  He ascended before their very eyes into heaven!  They worshipped Him and went back to Jerusalem with great joy!  They continued to worship in the temple by praising and blessing God!

+++++
It's time for me to stop writing, but there are just a few more events that happened right before Jesus ascended into heaven.  Read about it in John 20 & 21.

I was blessed writing all these things done.  Maybe you should try it to?

I hope you had a wonderful Easter season and don't forget ...

"JESUS DIED FOR YOU AND ME.  HE WAS CRUCIFIED AND DIED TO TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.  HE AROSE ON THE THIRD DAY AND NOW IS SITTING BESIDE GOD IN HEAVEN!  BELIEVE ON HIM AND BE SAVED!"

Can you imagine (Part 3)

Taking the Easter Story in parts like this really gives me some new perspectives on this familiar story.  That's what is so awesome about the scriptures in the Bible.  Even though you may have read the same verses over and over for years, you still find newness in each verse every time you read them!

I am blogging the highlights and insights that I am seeing as I read through the book of Luke and the other gospels.  I noticed that I forgot a small part before Jesus died, so lets back track just a bit.

As Jesus was hanging on the cross, breathing his last breaths, Jesus' mother and some other ladies were nearby.  When Jesus saw His mom and John standing beside her, He said to his mom, "Dear women, here is your son."  Then to John He said, "Here is your mother."  After that John took Mary into his own home and cared for her.  As Jesus was at His last moments between life here on earth and death, He made arrangements for His mom to live with John.  Tender love and care for His mom!

When Jesus knew that the scriptures were fulfilled, He said that He was thirsty.  They took some sour vinegar and soaked it on a sponge.  They put the sponge on a branch of hyssop and put it to his mouth.  After Jesus took a drink, that's when He said, "It is finished!"  He bowed his head and died.

The religious leaders got done what they wanted done.  They finally got rid of this Jesus.  Little did they know that they were just part of a much bigger and better plan!  Jesus did not stay dead!  He arose three days later!

+++++

I don't want to jump ahead of the story here, so lets continue with the next scene.  The next day was the special Sabbath.  The Jews did not want these bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, so they asked Pilate to have the legs of the three men broken.  I understand that if the legs were broken, then the person being crucified could no longer lift himself up with his feet for oxygen.  It helped their death come sooner.  I also never realized that sometimes it may have taken a few days for one to die.

So the soldiers went to the crosses and broke the legs of the two thieves but when they got to Jesus they realized that Jesus had already died and so they did not break His legs.  Instead, one soldier pierced Jesus' side with a spear and there was a sudden flow of blood and water that gushed out of His body.

"For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, "Not a bone of Him shall be broken".  And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."  John 19:36&37

It amazes me that a soldier took his spear and jagged it in the side of Jesus maybe not even realizing that he was fulfilling scripture.  All the details in this unique crucifixion were for a purpose!

+++++
For some reason this part of the Easter story is so much more real for me as I journal this.  There was a man named Joseph that came into play.  We know that he was a member on the Council, a good and righteous man, a man from Arimathea, a rich man, and a secret disciple of Jesus.  In John it says he was a secret follower of Jesus because he feared the Jews.

He went to Pilate and begged for the body of Jesus.  This is what Mark 15:44 & 45 says, "Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead.  Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.  When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph."

I think it's admirable that someone actually wanted to take of care Jesus' body after He died.  That bloody, that gross, that beaten, and now that dead body was now to be taken down off the cross.  The nails had to be pried out of His flesh.  The ropes had to be untied.  The crown of thorns had to be yanked out of His flesh and thrown away.  I can't imagine that this was a pretty job.

Joseph bought some linen cloth.  He took the body off the cross and wrapped it in the soft linen.  In John it says that Nicodemus was also with Joseph.  Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes to be put on Jesus' body.  The Bible says the weight of the myrrh and aloes was about seventy-five pounds.  That would have been a lot more than what they usually would have used on a normal burial.  Joseph and Nicodemus took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices and strips of linen.

At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden close by.  In this garden, Joseph had cut out of the rock a new tomb.  It says in Matthew that it was a tomb that Joseph had for himself someday.  Not thinking of himself, he instead laid Jesus in his own new tomb.  Then Joseph rolled a big stone in front of the entrance and went away.

There were also some women that followed Joseph to the new tomb.  They watched how he laid the dead body down.  Then they too went home and prepared spices and perfumes that they wanted to use for the body of Jesus.

+++++
The next day, the chief priests and Pharisees went to Pilate.  Imagine what Pilate might have thought when he seen these men coming.  I bet he sighed and groaned inside.  He probably thought what now?  What next do these "religious people" want?

They came to Pilate and said, "Sir, we remember that while He was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.'  So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day.  Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that He has been raise from the dead.  This last deception will be worse than the first."

Pilate ordered that they take a guard and make sure the tomb would be secure.  So the scribes and pharisees put a seal on the stone and a guard by the entrance of the grave.

We are not told what the disciples were doing during this time, but I wonder what they must have been thinking.  Surely, they remembered what Jesus said about rising on the third day.  Or maybe they were so sad to have Jesus now dead that they did not think of Him ever being alive on earth again.

When the Sabbath was over, the ladies were up early.  So early that it was still dark.  The ladies that prepared their special spices waited all day yesterday for this moment.  They finally were able to go to the tomb and put these ointments on Jesus' dead body!

As they walked to the tomb, they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?"  They were going with a purpose!  They were going to somehow get those spices on that body!  But, as they walked down that damp, dew path to the entrance of the tomb, they saw that the large rock was rolled away!

"There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the lord came down from heaven and , going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.  His appearance was like lightening, and his clothes were white as snow.  The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men."  Matt. 28:1 -4

Oh, my!  These ladies definitely were not expecting this when they arrived at the tomb!  As they asked each other as to how they would get that huge stone rolled away, God sent down an angel to do it for them!

The ladies were afraid.  Seeing a being that is like lightening and so white was terrifying!  But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; HE HAS RISEN, just as he said.  Come and see the place where he lay."  Matt. 28: 5 & 6.  In Luke it also says, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; HE HAS RISEN!  Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'"  "Then they remembered his words."

When I started this journal, I would have never thought it would be in four parts!!!  I sit here turning from one gospel to the next, trying to gather as much information as I can get with each scene!  Try this for yourself and see what you receive from it!  Amazing!!!  Truely amazing!

Part four coming up next!

Can you imagine? (Part 2)

Yesterday was such a busy day.  A day of activities.  Ashlyn got another set of shots at the doctors.  She did cry but not real long!  Then we went to a surprise tea party/birthday party for my mother in law.  She was surprised!!!  Yes!  Then I went cruising over to my next party which was a bridal shower for my cousin Jennifer!  I left Ashlyn sleeping at the birthday party, so after the bridal shower, I went back for my baby!  Goodness, then it was time to get the school kids at school!

When I got home, I got right to my huge pile of laundry that was patiently waiting for me all day!  I fried some fish that Matthew caught over the weekend!  (Mike and Matthew went with Uncle Matt fishing on Saturday!  It was the first day of trout and Matthew was looking so forward to this event!  He went last year and absolutely loved it, so he was sure to go again this year!  He caught 7 fish but was only allowed to keep 5.  They skinned them and we fried them!  Good job buddy!)  Our evening last night was more relaxing being just at home!  Love them nights at home and early to bed!!!

Now, this morning I am thinking more about the Easter story again.  Let's try to pick up from part 1.

We have Jesus on trial before Pilate.  Pilate knew that if he didn't do as the crowd pleased there would become a riot.  A serious uproar!  So, he washed his hands before them all and said, "I am innocent of the blood of this just person:  see ye to it."  Even though he couldn't find fault in Jesus, he released Barabbas to them and then had Jesus be scourged and crucified.

The soldiers took Jesus to a hall and gathered the whole band of soldiers.  They stripped Him of His clothes.  They put a scarlet robe on Him.  They platted a crown of thorns and forced those sharp thorns right into His head.  They took His hand and gave Him a reed to hold.  They bowed their knees and mocked Jesus.  They called out in mockery, "Hail, King of the Jews!"  They spit on Him.  They took the reed He was holding and hit Him with it on the head.  They were making sure those thorns were going deep into His flesh.  After they mocked Him more, they took the robe off of Him and put on His own clothes and led Him away to crucify Him.

I can't imagine going through all that mockery when knowing deep inside that what they were saying really was true!!!  He was the King of Jews!  He is still King of Kings!  Lord of Lords!  Son of God!

As they led Him away, they grabbed another man for help.  Simon, a Cyrenian, was told to carry the cross for Jesus.  I again can't imagine how Simon must of felt.  Did he know Jesus from before?  Did he know what was happening?  Did he know that he was in a very important scene of the Saviour of the world dying for all our sins?  I wonder if Simon struggled to carry the cross too?  Did the blood of Jesus run down his face and arms as he went step by step and followed the crowd to Golgotha?

Golgotha was were they lead Jesus, Simon, and a great crowd.  There were women that were crying and weeping as they looked at the beatings of Jesus.  There were two other men that were led with Jesus to be put to death.  They put one man on the right side of Jesus and the other on the left side.

Jesus was hanging on the cross.  Bruised.  Bleeding.  Dying.  Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."  Then the soldiers parted his raiment and cast lots.

There were lots of people standing around, watching all what was happening.  They asked Him saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He be Christ, the chosen of God."  They mocked and the soldiers joined in.  The soldiers too said, "If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself."  I guess they thought that if He could heal the sick, open the eyes of the blind, cast out demons, surely He could save Himself from death.  The thing is ... He could have!  He could have called angels to come and deliver Him.  He could have, but didn't!  He knew He had to die willingly to save the whole world from their sins!

A sign was placed on top of the cross Jesus was hanging on.  It said, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."  It was written in Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew.  Everyone could read it!  Oh, the words were for mockery but they really were words of truth!

Then one of the men that was crucified with Jesus just had enough.  He yelled at Jesus with desperation and said, "If thou be Christ, save thyself and us."  One last thread of hope.  One last chance to live.  He was desperate for life but not for eternal life with Him.  The other man on the cross rebuked the angry man by saying, "Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?  And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds:  but this man hath done nothing amiss."  He turned and said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."  Jesus said to him, "Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise."Here you have one mad man and one man that realizes his sins and asked to be with Jesus in eternity.  He also realized that Jesus had done NOTHING and did not deserve death.

Jesus cried out, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"  In those dark hours, Jesus took the sins of the whole world.  Some that were standing around thought Jesus was crying out for Elias.  They thought maybe He was calling for him to come and save Him.  Then Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Father, into thy hand I commend my spirit."  After saying this, He died.

The veil of the temple was torn right in half from top to bottom.  Did the people in the temple fear and tremble?  Surely, they too would have known that something significant was happening!  Then there was an earthquake.  The graves were opened and "many bodies of the saints which slept arose."

Right after Jesus died, a centurion and others that were watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and those things that were done.  They were really scared and said, "Truly this was the Son of God."

If you need to keep reading, go to Luke 23 and start at verse 50.  The burial of Jesus is coming next.

This video is really graphic.  Maybe you should watch it before your children view it.  Even though it's really gross and terrible what Jesus may have actually looked like, realize that He died on the cross for you and me willingly!  Listen to the words!

Ashlyn's First Birthday ...

Ashlyn turned one this week!

I baked her first cake.  I GIANT CUPCAKE!  I came across a picture of a giant cupcake online last evening, and I never have seen this before!  It's a great idea and I thought it to be perfect for baby's first birthday!!!

I bought a cupcake mold at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and started mixing and baking!

RECIPE:
1 box of cake mix
Add:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 small box instant pudding
pinch of salt

Mix:
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1 cup butter, melted

Mix everything together really good.  Put 3 cups of mix in the "top" and 4 cups of mix in the "bottom" portion.  Bake at 325 degrees for 45 - 60 minutes.  Cool in the pan for 10 minutes.  Frost and decorate!!!

I decided to bake some regular cupcakes too and display them around the giant cupcake.  With some pink icing, a cute peanut butter cup with more icing on top, seemed to make my cupcake adventure complete!  It was tasty and cute!

We invited family over for a small party to celebrate Ashlyn's birthday.  We enjoyed the cake and ice cream together and then Ashlyn opened up her gifts.  She got to taste her cake too (goodness, it is her birthday!  Why not have a sweet snack?)

Thanks everyone for what you gave and she will enjoy the babies, the new books, and the adorable clothing!  She was given her first piggy bank too and even a few dollars to put inside!  She was also given these adorable butterfly wings that she wore most of night!!!

Since Wednesday, she decided that walking is a good, fun thing!  She's too cute walking all around the house.  It's adorable to see her carefully go around the corner to the next room.  She's exploring and officially gets into everything!  If the cabinet, the drawer, or the door can be opened ... she will open it!

We love you so much Ashlyn and we had a great time celebrating your first year!  We pray that Jesus will be very dear in your life!  You are adorable, lovable, and very cute!  Love you!
She also got to move into her big car seat now!!!  Yes!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SWEETIE PETEY!
