Still canning. Ended volleyball. Planning ahead.

Chicken hearts … Mommy D. wanted some chicken hearts canned and I told her I would help her.  I ordered one case not really knowing how many that is.  When Centerville called and said they are in and ready for pick up, Mommy picked them up and brought them here to can.  We filled jars and I cooked them for three hours.  Now we have plenty of chicken hearts to enjoy!  Mommy always adds these to potpie and now I do too!  The kids always pick these out and really like them!

We just finished the volleyball season at Linville Hill High School and I'm sad to see it be over already!  I love to go watch Hadassah play and spike the volleyball!  The team did an outstanding job all season and it this was the semi-finals game against Mt. Calvary!  They played tough but so did we!!!  It took every ounce of energy and team work to make it to the fifth game!!!  Every single game was SO close!  Tit for tat the entire time!  Mt. Calvary did win the fifth game and that put us out for the season!  But what a game!!!!  The girls all played great and we are so proud of their team work and hard work!!!

Hadassah smiled when I showed her the newspaper article the next morning showing her name and documenting last nights game events!!!

Good job Warriors!!!

Hadassah finished volleyball strong and without any injuries.  Her shoulder is begging her to give it a rest for a few weeks though but then she will go full swing into Blast Volleyball!  I just finished her registration last night and she's excited to improve her skills even more!!!

We are deep in the fall mood these days.  The trees are changing the leaf colors.  Yesterday was the first I went out to blow the falling leaves into the neighboring fields.  The air is much cooler and we now have the heat turned on none stop.  The warm floors are perfect for our kitchen tiles!!!

It feels so cozy to turn on the fireplace in the morning and evenings just to give an extra warmth!!!  The hot cider drinks are marvelous!!!  But I have to be honest and say that previous years I got annoyed at those who rushed through fall and thanksgiving season because I think it is SO IMPORTANT to remember to give God thanks every day but if there's a national holiday of Thanksgiving … we must praise God for his mercies and blessings every day, especially through the fall season!  But, I'm holding myself back from moving into the Christmas spirit!!!  I've already burned almost a whole Fresh Balsam candle from Bath N Body Works because I just love that smell!!!  But when I burn the candle, it makes the whole house smell like Christmas!!!  And my mind is saying "that's OK".  And it is.  I'm going to try to find a balance with Thanksgiving plus mixing in some Christmas this autumn.

The house is still decorated in fall and the plans are to not change it until after Thanksgiving Day.  :)

One thing I am learning threw my years is that there are some things that I need to plan ahead for if I really want to get it accomplished!  Rosa and I finally have a date set that we are getting together!  I have not seen much of her at all since they moved back from the Haft and so I'm excited to get together and chat!  Another thing is I got tickets ordered for Mike and I to go to a Christmas Concert!  I know, I know, I'm adding that Christmas word here again but I LOVE Christmas music and going to a concert with my love is going to be fantastic!!!  One more thing, I also ordered tickets for our family to go see a Christmas Show!!!  The kids are excited about this, especially Ashlyn!!!  She will love, love it!!!  (These won't be until December but planning ahead for these means it will most likely get accomplished!!!  Yeah!!!)

So, my December calendar month is filling up already but I don't mind a bit!!!  Once the Christmas season is upon us, we are going to enjoy extra family time, extra baking days, extra loud carols coming from the Bose and extra holiday cheers!!!

===================================

We live in a time of much grief and hurt (and plenty of goodness and joy) but it seems like more and more people that we know are hurting.  Teenagers are hurting and need personal friends, not just face book friends.  Marriages are struggling and need to seek Jesus daily for strength to forgive and love.  There are shootings and killings around us taking innocent lives.  The headlines are always telling stories of so much hurt and pain.

The Bible Study DVD lesson I heard yesterday was so encouraging!!!  To seek God and to know that I know that I know that God is good!  Even when it seems like He is quiet and not moving mountains, He really is at work in the Christians lives!!!  In my life.  I need to look for the God moments and recognize that it IS God and not just luck or just so happened that way!!!  To turn difficulties into triumph is a goal!!!

I found this verse and printed it out on small papers and stuffed it in the pockets of those we know well as we went though a viewing line we attended this week.  Sometimes we just need to be reminded where our confidence comes from!!!

I also found out while at Bible Study that Matthew's baseball friend, Mahlon, got hurt in an accident on Sunday morning.  He was on his way to church with his family when a car hydroplaned and hit them head on.  We were also on our way to church and even passed one of the ambulances from this accident.  We were wondering what was going on???  It wasn't until the next morning that we found out Mahlon, the pitcher on Matthew's ball team, was hurt and is now in the hospital with a long recovery ahead.  Both of his parents and some siblings are also hurt and still hospitalized.  Please pray with us that God would touch each of their hurting, bruised bodies and bring complete healing!!!  Matthew is really wanting to go visit his friend once he is more stable and accepting visitors!

=============================

Today I am thankful for healthy bodies and strong, sound minds!!!  The sun is shining and Austin is busy playing with his friend Adrian!  :)))

Have a blessed week and remember to thank God for your health!!!

Fall Days.

Ginger just had a birthday and is now 8 years old.  Ashlyn was sure to make it special for her.  :)  She made a card for her at school and came home to stick a doggy treat inside of it before giving it to Ginger!  She's so sweet!

---------------------------------------------

Grandparents Day at school looks like it was a good day!!!  Love my parents so much and love how they love our children!!!  Thanks Mom and Dad for taking time out for the kids today!

--------------------------------------

I could write volumes on these two right here!!!  Yesterday, Austin was whinging and saying "I want Adrian to be my new best friend!!!!!!"  I thought he always was because Austin begs EVERY SINGLE DAY to go to Adrian's house!!!  It's way too handy to have them live just down the street and we stop in often enough!!!  These two decided to put marker on their faces the other day to pretend they are pirates!!!  Cousins are the best gift!!!

It's a bright, brisk fall day today.  The kitchen is now smelling like warm pumpkin because I just baked a fresh batch of Pumpkin Spice Cookies with Brown Butter Icing!  I found the recipe on Pinterest!

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. clove
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Icing:
3 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream all cookie ingredients together.  Bake at 350 for 10 - 12 minutes.

Icing - brown butter and cool for three minutes.  Beat it with the other icing ingredients and spread on top of cooled pumpkin cookies!

October is just rolling right along and before we know it will be Thanksgiving and then on to Christmas!  I'm already play9ing a few Christmas songs here at home.  But I have an explanation, even though I'm not looking for an excuse!!!  The other night we watched movie together as a family and it's called "The Star".  We watched it last year in theaters and totally loved it!  After we re watched it the other night, I immediately ordered it from Amazon!  It's one you might wasn't to add to your video library as well!!!  We've watched it on the way to and back from the cabin last weekend..  The Christmas vibes are already alive here!  (Don't judge … I love Christmas and it always goes by waaayyyy to fast@!  I can't get enough of the music, the message and the décor!!!  I'm also on the look out for upcoming holiday concerts!)  But, today is still autumn and I'm completely enjoying it!  To rush through this pretty, cozy season would be awful and I'm still enjoying all things pumpkin and apples!  My latest drink obsession is hot cider, with a heavy splash of heavy cream and a squirt of caramel syrup!  Stir it around and then sip till your hearts content!!!  Oh, so good!

---------------------------------

We are in the last part of Hadassah's school volleyball season.  They won again last night and I can't wait to cheer for her in their upcoming semi final game!!!

October is flying right by and the nights are becoming darker sooner.

Have a great mid week!!!

MACSA Weekend.

We had a second weekend in a row away from home but this time we took the kids with us!!!  Actually, my whole family met up at the cabin!!!  The kids were off of school Wednesday afternoon and not back in the classes until Monday.  This happens every fall, so we all decide to go to my parents cabin in the woods!

We left Thursday afternoon.  Hadassah had to stay behind because she has another volleyball game that night.  Her and Jess will meet up with us later this weekend.

It was cold at the cabin and even snowed a little one morning.  The guys went out hunting morning and evening.  Dad hit a nice buck but they had to go track it.  Mike took Austin along out to follow the blood trail!  He loved it!!!

They never caught up to the buck, meaning it kept going and it was a bad shot.

Colson and Austin love to play together!!!  These two love the tee pee!!!

My camera only captured these boys this weekend but we also played games and had fun together!!!

Our snack drawer is ridiculous!!!

Our breakfasts will never change!!!

Hadassah had another volleyball game on Friday night and so her and Jess didn't head up till late.  One their way to the cabin, they pulled over to switch drivers.  Just like that a police man came along and pulled over.  He asked if they needed any help and pulled up Hadassah's info.  He said that her license plate needs to be changed.  (Mike forgot to switch it when we bought the car.)  They said goodbye and off they went again.  This time Jess was driving and it she felt a flat tire.  What???  Oh no!!!  Here were two young girls on the way to the cabin late at night and now a flat tire???  She pulled over again and got out to fix it!!!  Thank God she had just taken a class at school on how to fix flat tires!!!  I'm not even kidding you!!!!  But, by now it started to rain!  Hadassah was on the side of the highway shining her phone flashlight on Jess while she changed their flat!!!  Unbelievable!!!  Truckers were flying past them in the rain!

Meanwhile, we all went to bed at the cabin.  I figured the girls would get there around midnight.  At 1:30 AM, I jumped out of bed!!!  Where the girls here?  I looked in their bedroom and no girls!!!  I panicked and woke up Mike!  He called Hadassah right away and she said they had a flat but should be there in 20 minutes!!!  They were following the GPS and I was all in a panic because the mountain roads were now wet and it was almost 2:00 AM!!!

I was SO HAPPY to see them pull into the driveway!!!  I hugged them and thanked God for protecting them!!!  We were all so tired and off to bed we went!!!

The next day we chuckled but gave the girls all a high five for making it to the cabin safe and sound!!!

We were all back home by Sunday late afternoon!  The weekend in the woods was wonderful!!!

Now, it's back to house chores and laundry!!!  I'm excited to go to Bible Study again and get into the word!!!  With two weekends away and off routine, I feel like I could use a fresh dose of the Holy Spirit to empower me!!!!

And now this is the pile of Austin's toys!  :)

And God showed me His beauty and majesty again last night!!!  Look at this sky!!!!!

Thank You God!!!

Boston = football weekend.

I've been quiet on the blog lately because we've been busy!!!  We got to do our annual football weekend with John and Kathy the other weekend!  We went to Boston this time!!!

We missed John and Suz and I wish they could have went along!!!  Damien (their son) is still battling cancer and his tumor in his brain is growing.  They are busy treasuring every good day as a family but please join me in praying for their family!!!

Boston was awesome!!!!  This is now one of our top football places!  The town, the sites and sounds and food were just totally amazing!!!  We started out last Friday after the kids were off to school!  We drove six hours and went straight to The Cliff Walk in Rhode Island.  Kathy plans our events and always has her map open on her phone!  I love that she navigates us from place to place because we see so much more when we travel with her and John!  She really wanted to do this walk/hike and now I know why!!!  It was my highlight of our trip!  We walked along the Atlantic Ocean and watched surfers surf and heard the waves crash and looked at the beautiful sea!!!

The Cliff Walk is exactly what it sounds like!  You walk along the cliff for miles and view the water, the surfers and gorgeous mansions.

So many pretty homes along the path!

Those speaks in the water are surfers.

More mansions right along the coast.

"You keep me safe.
I'll keep you wild."

This was so, so pretty!!!  Look at all those daisy's growing around the rocks!!!

Love this man so much!!!

From there we called up Urber and went back for the Yukon.  We found a seafood restaurant right along the water and ate raw oysters and the best scallop chowder!!!!

We were tired and checked into our hotel for the night!!!  What a great start to the this weekend!!

On Saturday we toured Boston!!!  We did a bus tour where we got dropped off here and then picked up again and taken to the next historic place!!!  Kathy always finds us what's popular and so we had to go to Michael's Pastry's!  Look at this place!!!  It was crazy full!!!  But the canollies were good and their Boston Cream Pie was delicious!!!

We walked the Freedom Trails.  You follow this path of pavers through the city and it takes you to historic places!!!

We visited the Quincy Market!!!  This was another big highlight for me!!!  It was crowded full of food and people but it had the best ever Lobster Roll!!!  The roll was filled with fresh lobster and dipped in melted butter!!!  We ate it with every single bite being so delicious!!!  Our fingers were dripping with butter!  It was worth every calorie!!!

The streets of Boston were filled with all these fruit vendors!!!  Is this America???  It looks like Belize!  So cool!!!

That night we found some more raw oysters in a restaurant on the 50th floor!!!  It was so pretty to look out over the city!!!  We could see the Frenway Park all lite up for the baseball game!!!

We walked the streets of the city and came up to Eataly Market!!!  Mike was super excited because he was here before and wanted to show me around!  Look at the catch from this morning!  This market was also very cool!!!  It was filled with Italy foods!!!  Lots of pasta, pizza and cheeses!!!

Cheese hanging from the ceiling!

To our luck, the Red Socks were playing in town that night!!!!  The guys were so excited to if we could wait till about the third inning and then grab some cheap tickets!!!  We were ready to the leave the Eataly Market and was going to call up Urber but then we spied these guys!!!  Men on bikes giving rides around the city!  Oh fun, fun!!!  We asked if they could take us up to the ballpark … and off we went!!!  Kathy laughed the entire ride there!!!  :)))  It was so fun!

We bought Red Socks tickets and we were in for a good ballgame!!!

It all seemed like a fun dream!!!  The day was filled with one fun adventure after the next!!!  It felt good to laugh and be carefree!!!  The night was long and the game went for forever and even after trying to connect with Urber to take us back to the Yukon, we ended up walking miles back to the parking lot!  It was way past midnight before we were back at the motel, exhausted from a day of walking and fun!!!

Sunday morning my legs were starting to feel all the walking!!!  We decided to go for a drive out to Cape Cod and see some lighthouses and this beautiful monument!!!

Look how tiny we are to this gigantic monument made in memory of our Christian Forefathers!!!  This was one of Mike's highlights!!!  He loved this!!!

Way out there is a small light house.

It was a nice drive there and back.  We got geared up to do what we actually came to Boston for … watch the Chiefs play some football!!!

It was an exciting game to watch even though they lost.

Thank you Boston for being so good to us!!!  We enjoyed you very much!!!!
