New Years Eve Day ...

I think we are making every possible holiday day there is?!  Is there something like New Years Eve Day?  I think so.  We will say so.

Been thinking about New Years Resolutions.  I am not usually very good at making these because too many times I got discouraged or made the goal too high to reach.  For 2012 I tried to stay a little more easy, more attainable, more fun!

1.)  Grow Spiritually!  Keep yearning to learn more about God and putting his word into my every day living!

2.)  Keep Running!  (Even when it's hard!  Really hard.)  I am the kind that thinks, "At least I am running!  I am happy with my mileage."  But I need to work on bigger goals.  Running farther.  Harder.

3.)  Be a FRIEND and not just a MOM!  Good relationships!  You notice the families that have good relationships between the parents and kids.  They kinda stick out in the crowds.  I want that for our family.  Not ordinary ... extra ordinary.  So that means there is work on my side.  Lay on the floor now and play games with the kids.  Listen now to all their little stories.  Someday they will be big stories.  Pray for them now while they are little and growing because probably someday they will be praying for me!  Get on their level now because when they are teenagers I hope to 'know' them better and help in the peer pressure and hardships of adolescents.

4.) Prioritize my demands ... GOD, MIKE, KIDS, MYSELF.  If I can keep this order, I know things will go great!  Whenever that 'self' comes first ... things get out of whack.

These are goals.  Set some for yourself!

Here's a song/goal to bring in the new year!!!  2012!

Happy New Years Eve!!!
2012!!!

9 Months

Ashlyn turned 9 months old yesterday!

She is doing a lot of chattering and says mama and dada.  She tries to say kitty.  It sounds like "kkkey".  She still loves mirrors and always waves and says "hi" when she sees herself in them.  Daddy is a must for her!!!  Sister and brother are the best friends and she is taking all the attention this week from them since they are out of school.  She is always pulling herself up anywhere she can.  She walks along furniture.  She eats a lot more variety of foods now.  Feeding her baby veggies was a favorite for her but now she wants our food!  She still chows on Cheerios!  She's growing!

She's a blast!  A blessing!!!

This was yesterday, getting ready to go out and do some errands.
Trying the new hat from Aunt Lena!

Enjoy your babies!  They don't stay little for long!

Be blessed today!

Our last Christmas gathering for this year ...

Another party!  More time with family!  Excellent food ... again!  Gifts!  Laughter!

Oh, the day started with a bang!  I went out for a run/walk.  My foot was a little sore so I decided to run 1 mile and then walk back.  The chilly air felt fresh and great!  We ate a small breakfast considering the rest of the day would be eating heavy foods!  Mike decided to run to my dad's and so that left me to get the house in decent shape before loading up the gifts, the kids, some food, and head to my parents!  I am so proud of Mike at how he takes on this running journey!  He is doing wonderful!  (He ran 10.3 miles!)

Got to dad's at 11 and the table was spread wide with Christmas plates and all decked out!!!  Mom and dad always way out do themselves with the food menu!!!  Serious!  Mike thought that our end of the dinner table had a different menu than the other end, that's how many different foods there were!  From steaks to fried oysters, sweet and mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, jellos, salad, warm rolls, roast, deviled eggs .... oh, even more!  It tasted delicious!  Thanks mom and dad for the great food!

We picked names with everyone, so after our multiple choice of desserts, we all got together in the living room and watched the fireplace wood burn as we opened our gifts.  We gave mom and dad's gift first.  (A luggage set, a Norwex mop, and dad a new deer drag rope.)  We all received a lot but some favorites are:  Hadassah got an Easy Bake from mom and she made some cookies this morning.  She got lot's of girl things from Fanny Lynn and loves her boots and blanket!  Matthew:  diffidently his new remote control truck and helicopter!!!  Mom gave each of the boys one of these and they are really neat!  Ashlyn:  a toy car and a musical toy that makes lots of sounds.  Mike:  a container to keep hunting clothes in with no scent and a pillow pet!  Me:  the new Honey brook cookbook and a new dress!!!  Thanks everyone for everything!

We played games all afternoon, relaxed, and ate snacks!  At 6:30, dad fired up the fryer with water and made king crab legs.  Mom heated ribs.  Ate homemade chips.  Tons, tons of stuff.

It was a fun day!  Thanks mom and dad for having the whole crew!  Love you guys!

Here are some pictures of our Christmas gatherings ...

Second Christmas!

I am not sure if this is really a holiday???  I think maybe it's an Amish thing, but we are celebrating the day with my family!

We had a great day yesterday!!!  We gave the children their gifts then we went to church and it was a full house!  Uncle Alvin made homemade sweet rolls for EVERYONE and coffee and juice!  It was awesome!!!!!  Totally yummy!  Thank you Alvin and Ruth!  Then there was a message preached and how refreshing.  It was said to imagine yourself being in the "Real Life" manger scene.  Which character would I have been?  A shepherd, poor and low class?  A wise man, rich and intelligent?  The inn keeper, the owner of many rooms?  Simeon, the one that prophesied?  Anna, the widow that fasted and prayer day and night?

We came home to a great smell!  I had a roast baking in the oven!  We ate and then Mike and the kids put their new ping pong table together.  They love their gift!  We gave Ashlyn some money to start a bank account.  I took a nap and we hung out here at home all afternoon and evening.

Matt and Lena came over and gave the kids each a gift and played some round table ping pong.  I was tired at 10:00 but Mike and the kids wanted to stay up longer.  It's Christmas ... so why not?  (I did make it clear though that it's normal for a mom to feel tired at 10 PM!!!  Right?)

Hadassah said so many times the last few days, "I don't really want Christmas to come yet because then it means it will be over."  Cute.  We decided we would keep the Christmas spirit all year long!  We are not near ready to pack away our Christmas CD's and I wish the radio stations would play the holiday music much longer!  Anyway, we are going to keep up the decorations, the lights, the music, and all the gifts we received out for a long time yet!  We just don't want Christmas to ever end!

I want to post our Christmas pictures we used for cards and the letter I wrote to send with them ...

... 2011 Christmas Letter ...

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
A new Christmas, a new holiday, a new letter about our family …
BUT the reason of our Christmas Celebration remains the same!!! Christ‘s birth!
Our Savior. Our Redeemer!

* Michael is the husband, father of our three children, and the employer in our family! It’s been so amazing to me how Mike has made his Lord & family the top priority in his every day living. Even though he’s busy working at Lapp Structures, he never lets that over rule his wife and kids. (Maybe it’s all the influence and teachings that he’s been getting from Men’s Bible Study?) He loves still being home when the kids wake up in the morning! (We love that too!) Mike also loves to deal the stock market. He likes it so much because he’s good at it! Mike likes to run. I think he’s a natural. He can go for miles and still not be puffed! He makes a good coach for me. He helped Matthew’s Little League Team play ball this spring by being the pitcher must of the time. He got to play some softball on the Jaguar team too. He didn’t get to golf this summer as much as he would have liked to, but still loves the game! He has a motto that he’s been living out. It goes, “Make today the best day of your life!” He says that to himself every morning in the mirror. He’s been texting me more love messages and showing deeper affection to the kids every single day and it’s such a blessing to have a wonderful, Godly man that leads our family with the Lords strength!!!
* I (Lori) get to be the blessed wife and mother of one amazing man and three beautiful children! God blessed us with a healthy baby girl, Ashlyn Marie, back in March. It was a change for us to have an infant and baby things around again, but it’s something we’ve prayed for and God answered! What a blessing! I am kept busy with caring for baby, helping the kids with school work and activities, cooking, cleaning, shopping and doing endless laundry! I wouldn’t trade my job for anything. I feel it’s right where God wants me to be and through serving my family, I hope I can teach God’s principles to our children. I love our Ladies Bible Study at church this fall/winter!. We are studying Beth Moore’s book titled, “Jesus, the One and Only!“ The first lessons were about the birth of Christ and how fitting for this time of year! I love to drink coffee, especially with cream. I don’t think there’s anything like taking too many pictures of your kids! I started a blog back in March and love it! You can find it online at www.reallife-lori.blogspot.com! I started running too. (These holiday activities are making this tough. I seem to be different than Mike in this area. Running is work for me! The colder weather has kept me indoors some too. Walking the treadmill just isn‘t the same.) Mothering is much easier when the daddy’s make it a team job and not just ‘mom’. Mike really helps with the kids and house chores. I appreciate that. Looking back at another year coming to a close, I see growth. My little children are growing up so fast … too fast. Mike is growing the business. Our marriage and love for each other is growing deeper! (That’s something I can’t figure out? Love grows even when you think your love for each other is at it’s strongest.) My goal is to grow more like Jesus every day.
* Hadassah is 9 years old. (Almost 10 and I remember when I turned 10! What happened to all that time?) She is in fourth grade this year and is loving every single minute of it!!! Thank you so much, Miss. Ranck, for all the wonderful influence you show to your class! This is Hadassah’s third year in taking piano lessons at school and she can’t wait to upgrade to a piano instead of a keyboard hopefully soon! She loves, loves to hang out and friends are a must for her! She loves her brother and younger sister and really does a great job at helping me care for them. Her dog is her pride and joy. Ginger gets lots of treats and kisses from her! Hadassah is beautiful and her heart is fixed on pleasing God!
* Matthew is six years old. He is learning so much in first grade! This is such a huge learning grade and he has new words that he is learning every week. Thank you, Mrs. Koenig, for your great organization and dedication to getting his class the best education there is!!! Matthew likes school but really loves to play too. He loves any sport but especially baseball. He did super in his Little League this summer and was even chosen to play on the All Star team. He received his very first trophy and he is so proud of it! Matthew loves his family and can always get Ashlyn in a giggle. He was so sad when our pet cat, Whiskers, died a few weeks ago. But after a small burial, he picked some mums and laid it on top. I was reminded of his tender heart. He loves his life, his family, his pets, and loves Jesus!
* Ashlyn is 9 months old and so much fun!!! I can’t imagine life with out her! She is pulling herself up to a standing position and walks along furniture. Ginger and her love to play together by pulling back and forth with the doggy toys. Ashlyn has a sweet smile and she has her daddy wrapped tight around her little finger. She loves her daddy and demands for him the instant she see’s him! If she hears his voice, she whines until he comes and picks her up. She has a few teeth. Her nuk and blankie are bedtimes buddies. Her blue eyes, blonde hair and petite figure are so adorable! God has made a beautiful baby girl and we are the chosen, blessed parents to care for her!
* Ginger is our Morkie house dog. She’s small and cute. She snuggles with Hadassah, roughs around with Matthew and does tug a war with Ashlyn. We gave her to the children last year for Christmas, and looking back, giving a puppy to the kids was one of our best gifts yet!
We want to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

********** Christmas Eve **********

It's Christmas Eve Day!!!!

Only 1 Day till Christmas!

(Turn off blog music before listening to this song.)

We will be off to a family gathering today!!!  It's always so much fun!  "Come early and stay late" is mom's thinking.  I'm sure it will be lots of Settlers, Rook, delicious cookies and food, oyster soup, mac and cheese and sooooo much more.  Christmas is defiantly the best time of year!!!

This year, instead of picking Christmas names with the family, it was mom's idea to all put together money and choose a family in need to give it too.  We can pick someone local or send it to a mission.

(Matthew has been praying for "the little boy" for a couple of months.  Wait ... I'll be right back!  OK, Ashlyn pulled off a piece of taffy off a gift under the tree and was thoroughly enjoying it.  We got a little postcard this summer from Christian Aid.  It had a picture of a little black boy sitting in a small tub of water and was very mal nutrition.  You could see his ribs and bones all over his body.  It was so gross that I threw it in the trash right away.  It was horrible looking.  Then awhile later, I got to thinking about him.  "I really need to show it to the kids," I thought.  "It's REAL LIFE!  There are so many starving out there and the poor children that go to bed each night hungry!"  This gripped Matthew's heart when he saw that picture!  He literally talked about "the little boy" for days.  He asked how much it would cost to feed him.  He wondered if he knew Jesus or had a family.  When we say our bedtime prayers, he requests to pray for him a lot.  I don't know where this boy is from ... Haiti or Africa I suppose?.!  Matthew really wants to give money to "the little boy" and even has a card and picture he drew for him.  We believe that God will somehow finds this "little boy" out in that big world and be sure that he gets Matthew's 7 dollars and card!  Today, we will send this card off to Christian Aid and hope "the little boy" gets it!)

We will be doing this this afternoon.  I think it's a great idea!  There are so many hurting and needy around us, if we just take a moment and look.  The kids will giving some of their money and then Mike and I will too.  I am anxious to see what their thoughts will be will doing this.  (Of course, Mommy has something for each person, so we will not be leaving without some sort of gift.  Spoiled!)

I love this song, so enjoy it.  Now I am off for a run before eating all the sweets and heavy foods for today!

Happy Christmas Eve!!!

~ School Christmas Parties ~

Matthew made a manger out of a toilet paper roll, some straw and baby Jesus.  He actually left his lay on his desk, so we will have to wait to get that till next year (ha, ha).  His class had a snack, played a game and made a craft.

Because Matthew forgot his craft at school, we made a replica of it here at home this morning.
First grade watched a 30 minute movie about the birth of Jesus this week and Matthew loved it!!!
He was telling us all the story when he got back home.  Then they were to write and draw what they
learned and seen!  Here's Matthew Christmas Storybook!!!  I love it! (Love that donkey!)

Hadassah's class did a 'now you have it, now you don't' type of game.  A story was read with 'right and left' in it and every time 'right' was said, they passed the gifts to the right.  The same went for 'left'.  Everyone had a gift and the boys and girls were separate.  Hadassah got nail polish and candy.  Then they had a snack and craft.  Hadassah loved the chocolate covered pretzels and her craft was cute.  Snowman soup:  hot chocolate pack, candy cane and Hershey kiss.

They were challenged to give this little gift to someone they want to bless.
Hadassah knows who she's giving it too!  She can't wait!

Ashlyn stole the show in both classes!
Big sister ... Little sister!
Hadassah has this tin gum can that she uses in her desk.  Ashlyn grabbed it and was so happy to
part of the party!!!  EVERYONE raved at her hat and she was loving the attention!!!
"I promise I was realllllly good this year!!!"
Waiting for the kids to gather up their backpacks and goodies and we are home for the holidays!!!

Be Merry this Christmas!

Only 2 Days left till Christmas Morning!!!

"This Is Christmas"

3 Days till Christmas!!!
(Turn off the blog music before listening to this song.)

Our date last night went great!!!  I knew it would!  We dropped the kids off at LaVern's (thank you LaVern and Fanny Lynn ... and the puppies are adorable!).  Mike and I headed for Exton and made our first stop at Panara Bread where we had sandwiches and soup.  Perfect!

Then we went to Sports Authority and priced the gift that we want to buy for our children.  (I can't say what it is because I have little readers!)  I mentioned to Mike before we left home that maybe we should take the truck but he didn't think that was necessary.  Well, we should have because it didn't fit in the van.  Sigh.  This is like only a few days from Christmas and I was hoping to cross this off my list!  You know what I mean???  We had to leave it there and while Mike looked at the golf clubs I went next door to Ross.  Love that store!!!  We found a small figurine type Italian pizza man and we bought it for Mike's favorite pizza joint - Sal's in New Holland.  I can't wait to hear what he thinks of it!!!

Then we walked the cobblestone streets and ended up at Barnes and Nobles.  We got coffee and browsed the store.  Of course, Mike was in the "stocks" section and I found myself in the recipe books, photography books, and the kids display.

The whole night was relaxing and fun and romantic! We picked the kids up and again ewwed and oohed at the cutest King Charles Spaniel puppies that LaVern's have!  They have three for sale and if you need a quick Christmas gift ... search no more!  Absolutely adorable and our children played with these 7 week old puppies most of the night!

Thank you so much for the great night Hun Bun!!!
I love you so much and really enjoyed the night with just you and me!!!

XOXOXOXOXO

* 38 Weeks Old *

**** Ashlyn Marie ****
~ 38 Weeks ~

Oh, how she would just love to get all these!!!
Admiring the manger scene at such a young age is a tremendous blessing for her!!!
If you put it in front of her ... it goes in the mouth!!!
 I love this one!
I had pictures taken of Matthew when he was 6 months old with this hat on.
Everyone says she looks like her big brother.
Finally feeling well and so happy again!!!
REAL LIFE FOR SURE!!!  Sick of the hat!
Mike said quit a few times already, "She might be the smallest one in the family, but she's the bossiest!"  Wants what she wants.

Have a good day!
Enjoy the holidays!

Down to 4 more days!!!

4 More Days till Christmas!!!

(Turn off blog music before listening to this song!)

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going out for supper and then getting the kids their Christmas gifts.  Just me and him!!!  It will be fun and walking the malls with Mike will be bliss!  I am sure we will sit down with a cup of coffee and chat and watch the rush of last minute shoppers like us!  What a perfect time of year to have love in the air!!!

Remember the people you love this Christmas!!!  Don't take being together for granite!

I love you babe and I can't wait for tonight!!!

(Turn off the blog music before listening to this song.)

********************
A praise report ... Hadassah and Ashlyn are doing much better with not coughing!!!  Ashlyn had a good night and she seems to be her happy self again!!!  Thank you for caring and praying!!!  Thank you Jesus!!!

When I woke Matthew up this morning for school, he groaned and wanted to stay in bed!  Even after 10 hours of rest, he was still tired!!!  (He takes after his mom and loves all that sleep and rest!!!)  When I told him he has school and that after Thursday, they have a 10 day school break, he smiled!!!  He is really doing good in school and is reading a lot more!!!  The Christmas Vacation sounded good to him though.  He was up and dressed in no time.  (This is a rare occasion because it seems like I have to tell him 3 times to get dressed, 3 times to brush his teeth, 3 times to get his shoes on, etc.!!!  We are working on improving this and this morning he was proud to say he was dressed and ready for school before it was even morning time.  Smile.  It was dark outside this morning longer than usual and he thought he was really doing it.  I nicely told him "good job" and that it was early morning!  Boys will be boys!  Love him!!!)

Notice the little things today about this joy est season!!!

... My favorite time of year ...

***** Only 6 more days *****
(Turn off the blog music before playing this song.)

*** "It's Christmas time and it's my favorite time of year!!!" ***

Oh, it truly is my favorite holiday!!!  We got through our extreeeeeemmmmmmly busy week and now we are trying to catch our breath.  My comment to Mike before he headed out for work this morning was this, "Taking a nap today is high on my list!!!"  He responded, "Good!"

Our week has been fun, tough, challenging, and sweet

Fun:  We got to see a lot of friends and family that we don't see too much throughout the year.  The kids had a blast at all the Christmas parties we've been at.  Lapp Structures had their banquet on Thursday night.  There was a lot of preparation done and to have this night over was a relief in a sense.  We do really appreciate all the employees and drivers, so we want the best food and party for them!  It was a late night and the kids got to bed at 11 PM.  Ashlyn was still not feeling well and had a really bad cough!  That alone makes a weary mom!!!

Tough:  I knew a busy week could be tough and Ashlyn's health was it!!!  Hadassah had a sore throat and cough and was drinking a lot of tea!  The rest of us stayed healthy but the lack of sleep made us tired.  Friday morning, I cleaned my dad's shop.  (Something I do every other Friday.)  Ashlyn seemed to be feeling better but still had a cough really bad.  Especially when she slept.  She took a decent afternoon nap and at 2:15 PM she woke up and was coughing really bad.  I called the doctor and took her in to get checked out.  I kept thinking things like RSV, etc.????  I was doing the home remedy's of Unkers on her feet and chest and running a vaporizer in her room.  The doctor listened to her breath and cough.  She breathed fine but coughed nasty.  We did a nebulizer treatment at the doctors office and she responded good to that.  Bronchitis.  I left the doctors and headed for Ephrata Medical to pick up a nebulizer machine and then to to CVS for the treatment drops.  Thanks to Angie for picking up the kids at school and to Jody for watching them till I finally was back home at 5:00.  Mike and I had a banquet at 6.  Oh my.  Because the meds were not ready when I was at CVS, Mike stopped for them and grabbed two personal pizza's for the kids at Pizza Hut.  We rushed to get ourselves ready and out the door.  The kids stayed with Lena (thank you so much again!!!).  We got to the banquet safe and sound and late.  It was OK though.  The food was great and after some games, we headed back home!!!  Ashlyn was still coughing but I was hoping she was on her way to getting better and not worse!

Challenging:  Up like a lark on Saturday morning.  Oh how we would have loved to sleep in!!!  Mike dropped Ginger off at Sadie's (thank you Sadie) and then picked up his parents and we all headed for Juaniata County for the King's Christmas Dinner.  The two hour ride out was OK but we had a great time with the family!  Thank you Merv and Anna Ruth for the wonderful food and hospitality!  The drive home went fast and most of us slept!  We couldn't wait to jump into our nighties and relax at home for the evening!  Sorry, JR and Ann, but going to yet another gathering would have been crazy for us.  Next year!!!

Sweet:  Sunday we went to church.  Studying the Christmas Story is still always wonderful and picturing it in "real life" is always inspiring!  Hadassah and Ashlyn's cough are much better.  Ashlyn is still very whiny and not her "happy self" but we are grateful for the improvement!  Again, we got to enjoy more family time with the "Riehl's" and a yummy lunch.  The Riehl's were at Aaron and Linda's home and many thanks to them for having us all!  Love you guys!  After Mike played some good Rook games, we were back home ... again ... for the evening!!!  Mike put Ashlyn on our bed so he could hang up his clothes and suddenly I heard her crying like crazy!  She fell head first off the bed! Mike felt so bad and held her for a long time before she finally seemed to be OK.  It was a scare and not something we want happening again!  Bed at 8:30 was great!

This week will be different!  The only thing on my calendar is a date night with my husband (YES!!!!) and a Christmas Party at school with the kids.  We have early dismissal Thursday and no school Friday till after New Years!  This week will be the finishing touches of gift wrapping and baking.

We hope your week of Christmas is cheerful!  Merry!  Bright!  Healthy!!!

Happy Monday!

We have been blasting on Christmas music when we on our way to all our Christmas parties and events.  The kids want # 17 played a lot.  It's Jingle Bells.  Hadassah thought that should be the song posted for today.  I found this cute animal song with jingle bells and I hope the kids enjoy this one!!!

Have a great Friday!
Our weekend is packed full of gatherings and parties,
so for now I am off to do some work and then to enjoy the holiday festivities!

10 ...

Yep, we are only 10 days away from Christmas Day!!!

(Turn off the blog music before listening to this song.)

"Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children,
ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."  Matthew 18:3

Looking at Christmas through the eyes of children, can be a wonderful sight!!!  To them it's a celebration!!!  A celebration of Jesus being born, gifts wrapped up in a pretty bow that they can unwrap, and yummy cookies.  Let's keep the "Celebration" true and real this year with our kids.  Let's not get caught up with too many things to do and forget to stop and admire the manger scene!

Have a great Thursday and enjoy the best season of the year!!!  Christmas!!!

* Tis the season *

We seem to always have a crazy, busy week sometime right before Christmas and I guess this week is the week of busyness for us.

Monday, I was doing more chocolate covered crackers and peanut butter balls with my in - laws.  Ashlyn was not feeling the best, so after lunch I came home and cared for her.  I picked the kids up at school and managed to get a 2 mile run in.  I would like to get back to my every day running schedule, but with baby not feeling well and the colder weather, I just have to take the opportunity when I can.  I got back from running and showered and jumped into my pj's early.  When Mike got home from work at 5:30, the minute he walked in the door, I remembered we had people coming here for a 6:30 school meeting.  Sigh.  I hurried through supper, got combed and redressed and cleaned up the house.  Bed felt so good that night.

Yesterday, was another day of trying to fit too many things into my schedule.  Ashlyn didn't have the best night's sleep and was up twice through out the night.  She woke up not too bad but still not herself, happy baby.  I got the kids off to school, Mike went to work, and I got busy filling filo cups with fruit dip and topped them with fresh strawberry and kiwi and Mandarin orange pieces.  Every Christmas a friend of mine goes to Hershey and puts out a really nice display of holiday cookies, cheesecakes, and finger foods for the doctors, nurses and people on the 7th floor at Hershey Medical.  I make a bunch of these filo cups and a big batch of peppermint cookies.  I'm sure the people at the hospital were so blessed!  (Shakia is at Hershey again.  Please keep praying for her.  She got a normal cold but because of her birthmark type in her throat (I would spell it out but I'm not sure how it's spelled .....), it made it really hard for her to breath.  She will need to be there for 3 - 4 days again.  Mom and Mindy got to taste the foods that Sue took up.  I know any bit of cheer is helpful!  Pray that Shakia will be able to come home soon and for Jason and Mindy to have patience and wisdom with the doctors!)  Then I went to Ladies Bible Study and soaked in another great session!  Ashlyn did good!  I was home a little before heading off to the kids school play.  The play was cute and delivered a great message but Ashlyn was a bear!  She was soooo tired and would not sleep!  I was so ready to be back home and put her in her crib.  She slept for I think 20 minutes.  Why was she not relaxing and sleeping???  After supper, we all headed back to school for the evening program.  Again, Ashlyn was not good.  Mike and I took turns holding her in the back.  She finally feel asleep about 5 minutes before the program was over!!!  The kids were tired too but they did a great job in the program!  Good job guys!

These cookies are great for Christmas platters!!!

My pictures never turn out the best in the school gym.  I blame it on the lights or maybe from my photography????  Anyway, here is Matthew with his class getting ready to sing some songs and Hadassah is waiting to play a piano piece!

This morning, I got the kids up for school and Mike was already off for his Men's Bible Study.  Hadassah woke up with a cough and sore throat.  Matthew went on the bus by himself.  Hadassah laid on the couch sipping some hot tea.  When Ashlyn woke up, she woke up with a smile!!!  Praise the Lord!  Even though I was up with her at 3:30 AM again, she at least seems perked up this morning!  She ate some toast and drank a full bottle of formula.  (Yesterday, she only had 1 1/2 bottles all day!)  I think she is on her way to good health again!  At 7:50, Hadassah thought that maybe school would be better than laying on the couch all day.  She got dressed and finished her tea.  I drove her to school just in time for the day to start!

Ashlyn is now 37 weeks old.  She can crawl on hands and knees now but prefers to stand up!!!  She pulls herself up anywhere she can.  She's pushing through two teeth and I think that was her reason for fever and feeling well.?.  She loves mirrors and always waves to herself.  When she sees herself in a mirror she says, "Hi."  We really think she's saying it but all her other baby talk is just blabber.  She waves goodbye to people too!  She's growing and still really loves her older siblings and especially her daddy and aunt Lena!!!!

(You can tell in her eyes that she's not feeling the best but getting better!!!)

Ginger and Ashlyn are friends ... (Ginger needs a haircut really bad!)
See ... she waves good bye.  Hint, hint mom?

I have the whole day at home today!  Thank goodness!  I hope to get some more gift wrapping done and laundry finished!

Be blessed and through life's challenges (and let me tell you sick kids are a challenge!), keep the spirit of Christmas!  Be happy when things around you seem sad.  Be grateful when your surroundings are tough.  Be merry ... because Jesus was born for you!!!

14 days ...

Normally, I am not at home at 10:20 AM on a Sunday morning.  But today I am.  I am on the couch holding baby.  She's teething and I think she's got a flu bug on top of it.?.  She's feverish and just lays around.  Miserable.  So, I stayed home from church with her and so far have been busy holding and caring for her.  Please pray for Ashlyn and that she will feel better as the day goes by!!!

Lights ...

15 Days till Christmas!!!
(Turn off the other music first before starting this song.)

Last night we went out to town to Kitchen Kettle and walked the little paved streets.  We had baby bundled up and the kids loved the smells, lights and tastes!  We walked into the fudge kitchen and all gave a "UHHH, smell that fudge!"  We even bought a big slice to enjoy!

Mike and I both got a coffee.  I had "Holiday Cheer" and it was exactly that!  So cheerfully delicious!

Matthew walked out of a toy store crying and that seemed to end our fun time.  He wanted to buy a toy so bad and we said no.  Christmas gifts are under the tree.

We drove to New Holland for some movies and ended our family night with Dennis the Mennis Christmas.

Things to be done before Christmas ...

There are still things to do before Christmas day.  Banquets, gift wrapping, baking cookies and desserts, and more.  I started this week with doing some baking.  I needed a big tray of cookies for a school hot lunch and so I picked my favorite cut out cookie recipe.  "Super Soft Sugar Cookie" is what's it's called and I got it from the Internet last Christmas.  It's a really soft dough and because I cut it in shapes, I decided to bake these while the kids where in school and saved some for them to decorate.  It was a long day of baking even though I only did two kinds and most of them are all eaten already.  (More baking days are coming up!)

* Ashlyn is 36 weeks old *
I finally caught her doing this with my camera near by!!!  Ashlyn is 36 weeks old now and she has this thing with standing her head.  (Well, trying to!)  She's still working on her two bottom teeth coming through but you can now see the tips and it hurts when she bites on your finger.  She is still chowing on cheerios and crackers.  She is starting to crawl on hands and knees and if at all possible, she's pulling herself up and stands against something.  I put my gate over the basement step opening because I am nervous when she's crawling around so much and I don't want her falling down those steps!  She's growing more blond hair, her blue eyes sparkle, and she's a blast!  Love her to death!!!

* Buying a Christmas Tree *
Last night we went for our Christmas tree and after the kids picked the perfect tree, we went around the block and looked at the Christmas lights.  Pretty!
Other years, we went for a tree and wanted to hurry bring it home and decorate it.  Lately, Mike and I have been trying to enjoy all the little things about Christmas, so instead of driving our same route home, we went some back roads and enjoyed the Christmas lights that people have put up!

Mike and the kids even walked this little display!
* Baby JESUS ... *
* Back home with Matthew right by Mike's side setting up the tree! *

Enjoy the season!!!  Notice the little things!!!
