800 Ears of Corn ...

On Tuesday, we did 800 ears of corn at mom's.  Got to do it when it's ready you know!  What a wonderful feeling to check that off the "Canning/Freezing List"!!!

We needed to do 800 ears, not because we LOVE corn so much, but because we split it into five families.  That also means that there were five ladies (plus Mommy D.!!!) working on this project all afternoon!!!

We've been using this same set up and system for years now.  We start with barrels and dad's tractors ready to go.

The bags get delivered with 100 in each.

The first big kettle is hooked up to propane and we cook it.  The next barrel is filled with fresh cold water and we husk it.  The husks go into the tractor barrels.  Then the cobs go into one more barrel of ice cold water to cool before cutting off the corn.

We cut some, we cream some.  Then we mix it and bag it.

2 cups in each bag.

Lay it on a tray and take it to the freezer!  Enjoy!!!

While we worked, the children played.  The little girls traded shoes and had fun together.  The older children played four square and rip sticked.

Ashlyn and Shakia ...

Plus the twins ... Megan and Melanie!

We caught them red handed!  The loved the corn too and would take a few bites from one cob and then throw it back.  Grab another cob and take a bite and throw it back!  What can we say?  Too cute!!!  They are ours so we know their germs are perfectly safe!!!  :)

She LOVED it!!!  No need for butter and salt when it's picked that morning, cooked and cooled fast and delicious!!!

THANK YOU ... mom and ladies for making this big job be a good memory!  The day went fast and the job got done!!!  We now have corn in the freezer for yet another year!!!  Praise the Lord for vegetables!!!  Fresh veggies are the best!!!
