Merry Christmas!!!

It's Christmas morning.  I'm the only up yet with breakfast already eaten.  Demands of the little one inside of me!  :)  Everyone is still sleeping good at 8:30 AM!  We had a great evening just here at home last night.  We ate a delicious meal!  We read about the birth of Jesus.  Everyone was tickled with their gifts we have one another.  (More on that later.)  Mike washed our feet.  Then we prayed and thanked God for all our blessings!  We then went downstairs to watch a true movie about whales.  It was really fun and a wonderful night!!!

Now, it's Christmas morning and we have a full day ahead with family!  We are so blessed!

Here's the Christmas letter we sent out with our cards!  May God be glorified and may you be blessed this Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you!

Each time I write another Christmas letter to send out, I marvel at how fast each year goes by.  I am very grateful to reflect on yet another year of memories and good times!  Christmas is the best time of year and everything seems so bliss and radiant.  It’s the only holiday that we go all out with decorating the house with fresh pines, holly & poinsettias.  We even string lights outside.  It’s the only time we bake different kinds of cookies and make yummy chocolates.  We burn extra candles.  We sing carols at home, at school, at church, and to our neighbors.  We wrap and unwrap gifts.  We spend extra time with family and friends!!!  We read and reflect on the birth of Christ and go visit any local outside nativity scenes that we can.  Being reminded again of how Jesus came to the earth as a baby, born in a stable, grew up with knowing he came for one purpose!  One!  Jesus came to die for our sins so that we can live with him in eternity!  Forever & ever!  He made an impact everywhere he went!  The sick, the hurting, and the dying came to him constantly to be healed!  Jesus brought and still brings living water to all who thirst for him!  He brought life and hope to us sinners!  He brought to us the best gift of all … the gift of salvation!  Let’s reflect on the real meaning of Christmas this year and let Jesus be the center of all your celebrations!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

Looking back at the year of 2014, we have had wonderful times!  Here is a bit about our lives.

Michael:  Mike loves his job at Lapp Structures and has been there for many years.  You will find him there most of the working week.  He loves to learn and enjoys learning more and more about wise investing.  He gets out on the golf course a few times during the warmer months and he really enjoyed his trip to Florida on a golf outing with LP.  He also took a trip to Texas to do some more investment learning.  Mike loves to travel but his family would much rather have him at home!  J  Mike took on a new sport of biking this summer.  He loves it and trained well to go on a 125 mile bike ride from Black Rock, PA to Rehoboth Beach, DE.  He spent many hours on his bike this past summer and loved every bit of it!  He also still loves the game of baseball and so we all went to Matthew’s little league games where Mike pitched for Matthew’s team and then to the Gators games where Mike coached.  He played in some fundraiser tournaments and helped a team in Gap one night a week.  We go to many baseball games throughout the summer months but its fun because it’s something that every one of us family members enjoy!  Mike is a wonderful husband and daddy!  He adds humor and laughter to our home!  Planning for a remodel job for our house is on his list of jobs right now.  He loves the Lord, is a great Sunday school teacher, and is a great leader!  We love him so much!

Lori:  Being a mother of three sure keeps me busy!  I love being at home with them and caring for them!  I am excited to also be pregnant with baby #4!  We are all thrilled to add another baby to our family!  July looks like a long way off yet, but if time keeps going by quickly, it will be here before we know it.  J  We took a family trip to Sarasota, FL, last February and we enjoyed all our extra family time!  We love to break up the winter weeks with some sunny sunshine from the south!  We seemed to have the best of both worlds last winter.  Tons of snow, then some warmth in Florida, then tons of more snow again.  We weren’t sure there for a moment if winter would ever leave us.  Of course, it did but it left our school scrambling to fill in all the absent snow days.  We were all very ready for summer vacation to arrive!  I am so grateful for the wonderful school and teachers that we have because with just two weeks of teaching the children while being on vacation, I was ready to give the job back!  J  I still like photography and taking photos of our children is such fun!

Hadassah:  Hadassah is in the seventh grade and is doing well in middle school.  She works hard at her studies and is rewarded with good grades!  In February, she played basketball and loved every bit of it!  She just finished up playing volleyball games with the school team and really, really liked that too!  This keeps me busy with going to the games and cheering!  It’s so fun!  Listening to Odyssey and pinning on Pinterest are great past times for her.  She is still taking piano lessons and hearing her play Christmas music is lovely!  She’s growing and is as tall as I am!  She will be my huge helper when baby arrives!  She loves to shop and finding deals is fun for her!  Ginger is still her dog and loves her a lot!  Hadassah is sweet, pretty, loves to hang out, laughs a lot and brings much fun to our home!

Matthew:  Matthew is 9 and in the fourth grade.  He also does well in school and likes his friends.  His all-time favorite thing to do is be outside throwing a ball with his daddy.  They toss a softball in the spring/summer and now it’s a football.  He loves sports.  He likes to create things out of paper and he climb trees.  Riding his four wheeler and new bike is great fun!  He really does love his two sisters but teasing them seems to be such a thrill for him.  He is really wishing for a baby brother!  Matthew played for the Rockies again last summer again and they were so proud to only have one lost!  They played great in their tournament and finished in second place!  Playing baseball with these friends and seeing them get better as a team was worth another trophy!  Matthew is a great kid.  He’s a lot like his mom when he gets an idea in his head.  He pursues it “now” and expects it to be accomplished sooner rather than later.  J  He is starting on an orthodontist journey.  He just got an expander and braces on his upper teeth.  Matthew adds tenderness into our home with his soft heart.  We love when he laughs from the heart.

Ashlyn:  Our toddler is growing up too.  She is three and her “terrible two’s” are behind us!  She is a sweet gal and really loves to do puzzles, play games and color!  She still plays with her two favorite dolls and loves to play doctor.  Or pretends to cook food.  Or builds a house with her wooden blocks.  She will put all meat aside and reach for her vegetables.  She is adoring our baby kittens right now!  Please let us know if you would like to give a cute kitty as a Christmas gift!  J  She enjoyed helping me in the garden this past summer and picked so many of our tomatoes, string beans and sugar peas.  Riding her pink bike, drawing on the driveway with her sidewalk chalk and getting swing rides are fun for her!  She will not be our baby for much longer.  She too is looking forward to having a baby in the house.  Ashlyn LOVES babies and I know she will be a big help!  Just like all our other toddlers, Ashlyn loves her dad and enjoys every minute he shares with her!  Ashlyn is our blonde, blue eyed darling and she is a tremendous blessing to our family!

Well, that’s just a bit about our family.  We are excited to make many more precious memories in 2015.

May this Christmas season be filled with lots of laughter and fun and good memories for you and your families!!!  Jesus really did come to the world to save us from our sins!  Reflect on his birth and salvation this Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Love … Michael, Lori, Hadassah, Matthew and Ashlyn Lapp

Di Images did a great job with our photo's!  Thanks Diane!

It's Christmas Eve Day!

Does that even make sense?  Christmas Eve Day???  It does here at our home!  Mike and Matthew are out for breakfast and working till a little after lunch.  Hadassah is at market for Lena and coming home this afternoon.  That leaves just Ashlyn and I here at home to do the laundry, make huge pots of mashed potatoes and prepare for our foods tonight!

The kids are looking forwards to tonight so much!  We will read the story of baby Jesus.  We will give our presents from under the Christmas tree.  We will eat seafood, stuffed mushrooms and pretzel wraps.  We will laugh.  We will sit together snuggled in blankets and watch a movie that Mike picked out!  I can't wait!!!

Christmas is finally here.  A fresh coating of snow would make it magical but it's only rain outside!

I have Pandora playing and its bringing in some songs that we used to sing and listen to as kids.  Here's one that was fun!

And because Christmas is almost here, here's a few pictures we took this summer as a family!

Happy Christmas Eve!

Christmas vacation has begun!

Christmas vacation has officially begun ... at least for the kids!!!  :)  I have all the gifts wrapped and under the tree.  Hadassah keeps mentioning something about taking her to town for a gift for Mike and I, but I'm not sure that's going to happen?!?  I baked a small batch of peppermint meltaways because ever since I found this recipe, I just think every Christmas has to have these cookies around!  I also made my first batch of pretzel bark but I am nervous.  It doesn't quit look like Suz's!  :/  I hope it will taste good!  I also have two big pots of mashed potatoes to prepare for both Mike and I's family meals.  I volunteered to do this!  I'm so happy the mother's are willing to host so I will bring whatever!!!  :)  I want to also make a few small things for just us to eat tomorrow night on Christmas Eve!

So, my vacation has not really begun yet ... but it will!  I do plan on relaxing and having fun with the children while they have two weeks off of school!  To keep them occupied will be a challenge.  Hadassah and Matthew both do great in school.  Ashlyn loves when they are home to play with her but it seems they end up teasing each other a lot.  This might be the perfect time to get out the big puzzle and have us work hard at it?!?  Puzzles is something Ashlyn and I do every single day.  She's got lots of small puzzles and she loves, loves to lay on the floor together and put them together.  She just got a new one from Mike's mom at the employee banquet and she must have done it over twenty times already!  She loves it!

Mike's been in NY the past two days and we are looking forward to having him back home tonight.  It might just be another "Home Alone" movie night together.  He bought the whole set for the kids the other day and it's all they want to do at night.  When Mike and I slipped out for a "Ugly Sweater Party" the other night, they stayed home alone watching "Home Alone".  :)  My parents stopped in and joined the movie fun for a while.  Thanks to Ritchie for finding us some last minute ugly sweaters at Goodwill!!!  Hadassah was so embarrassed when Mike called Goodwill and asked if they have any ugly Christmas sweaters!  The man answered, "You might find a few!"  :)  I think we won!!!  Mike's colorful jacket/sweater took the cake!  Everyone was laughing at him!  I wore a mans sweater that was too big but it had Christmas color strips.  I think they will go right back to Goodwill now!  Thanks to Mike's Uncle John and Kathy for hosting a fun party!

Today, Matthew had his Christmas Party at school.  His teacher treated them to popcorn and games and then two of us mother's helped serve a heavier snack.  Meatball sliders, veggies and dip, fruit kabobs, drink and candy.  They also made a 3D snowflake as a craft.  The party was fun.

Hadassah went with middle school to sing at an old folks home.  They were back for early dismissal and everyone was excited about leaving school for lots of Christmas vacation!

We are blessed to have a Christian school that teaches the real meaning of Christmas!

Be merry!

Dienner Family Christmas ~

On Sunday, we got to enjoy some Dienner family time together.  Mom's family used to gather together for almost all the big holidays.  Mommy & Daudy Dienner would have ham and hide tons and tons of Easter eggs for all the kids to find.  She would have a chocolate or gift for us all.  Then at Thanksgiving, we would get together again and eat, give thanks and play games.  Again, for Christmas, we would all go to Daudy D's and have Mommy's yummy oyster soup, chicken noodle soup and ham sandwiches.  They would give every-single-person a gift!  I can't imagine shopping for all these people.  With a family of six children and then bringing all their children ... it was a lot.  Mommy's whole counter was stacked with presents.  It was so much fun and we ALL looked so forward to the entire day.  Again, the game cards would come out and the chip dip and chips were eatin.  There was so many snacks and drinks!  It's a little different by now.  Years have passed and times change.  We now only gather for Christmas.  I would never want to miss this!  Each of the children take turns organizing the event.  We can no more go to Daudy's home.  We totally out grew that place!  It's not just children and grandchildren but it's now great-grandchildren too!

The grandchildren and greats were invited for the afternoon/evening.  We seemed to all arrive at the same time.  No more silence for the older folks!  :)  We brought the little people along and the girls played duck, duck, goose while the older kids played outside.  We seemed to all bring along a snack and that made for a huge display of cookies, clementines, chip and dip, etc.!!!

Daudy and Mommy were both able to be there again!!!  I'm sure it was so much action for Daudy to watch as he sat in the coach by the fire place.  Mommy D. was busy giving out a gift to EVERYONE again.  This time she did $$, gift cards and the little people got pillows that she made!  Everyone got a roll of balonie too!  It's so special to have them as grandparents!

The guys sat in a circle and played Acquire.  Some of the ladies played 7 up, 7 down.  Some played hoss.  Other's just sat and chatted.  Some of these cousins we only see once a year so it's fun to catch up and see their children!

Thanks Daudy and Mommy D. for raising up a God fearing generation!  The Dienner will always be special to us!

I did terrible at taking pictures this year!  Oops.  Here are a few I captured though.

Ashlyn has slept with this pillow ever since she got it!!!  Thanks Mommy D.!!!

Nativity. 2.

If I don't go a little faster with my characters, we won't get through the Christmas nativity scene!!!

As I look again at our nativity scene by the window, Joseph seems to be the next character to reflect on.  What a job for a man to try to understand a women's heart.  It's hard in a normal situation but I don't remember the birth of Jesus being the typical birth.  No way!  Angels seem to appear in almost every scene.  God visited.  His anointing.

We are told that Joseph was a carpenter.  One who tried to make a living with working his hands with wood every single day.  His hands were probably rough and strong.  His skin tough against any small splinter.  We are not told of her personality but he was the man that Mary was in love with.  The two of them were engaged and preparing for their wedding celebration someday.

He loved to go and visit Mary's house.  Her mom was always ready to serve some hot herbed tea.  The home was well kept and the smells were wonderful.  They often had some warm biscuits that they served with their hot tea.  With a touch of wild honey, it was delicious.  Joseph wasn't able to visit near as often as he wished because working hard to make some extra money was a big goal for him.  If he and Mary were going to furnish a home and live together, they would need some coins for pots and pans.  A small bed.  Mary would make some hand woven rugs.  Even beginning a simple home in Nazareth wasn't free.  Joseph was a man who worked hard for his earnings and paid his taxes.

One evening, he had some extra time to slip by and say hello to his dear girlfriend.  He walked fast and his heart pounded with love for her.  As they spent some time conversing about their day, Joseph noticed something was on Mary's mind.  He could not put a finger on it.  He still tried hard to figure women out but this one was tough.  She seem peaceful.  There seemed to be a glow of radiance on her face.  Why?  He knew deep in his heart that she was so beautiful but tonight she beamed.  She didn't say anything to make him question her glowing face, so as they said their good byes for the night, he walked back to his home.  This time, not so fast.  He walked a bit slower with many things on his mind.  He could not wait to have Mary as his wife.

It was only a few days later that he got news that Mary was leaving town.  She wasn't sure how long she would be gone.  She said that she needed to go and visit her cousin Elizabeth.  Why was this so urgent?  Elizabeth was old.  She had no children that planned weddings, so what did Mary want with her?  He did know that they were always good friends and you can't blame one for visiting family!  Joseph stood along the road and waved to Mary as she made the journey to see Elizabeth.  He knew he would miss her so much but she promised to return after a short time!  This seemed to be a excellent time for him to really get those house furnishing completed.  All his extra time would be focused on preparing to live with Mary.  She looked back and waved to him.  Mary knew she would miss Joseph to but she also knew that she had to go see Elizabeth!  She had to!!!  She wished she could share her vision and thoughts with everyone around her, especially Joseph, but she kept quiet.  She was so happy for Zacharias and Elizabeth.  She didn't fear her long journey because she was going to visit family and another pregnant women!  They would have so much to talk about!

Finally, he got word that Mary has returned to town!  He was so excited to tell her all the furniture he had made.  He hoped she would like it!  It was three months since he saw Mary and to waist one minute more would not be an option.  He grabbed his cloak and ran out the door.  He walked as fast as he could to get to her home quickly.  As he walked up to the front door, he gave a gentle knock.  He felt like bursting in and giving the biggest hug one could give, but he control his actions and waited till someone came to the door.  It was Mary!  There she was so pretty and sweet.  It was so nice to finally look into her eyes and feel that dreamy feeling again!  They greeted and she invited Joseph inside.  As they sat by the table, they had so much to talk about.  He told her about the furniture.  She was delighted!  Then she told him about Elizabeth and her travels.  They couldn't talk real long because Mary said she was very tired from all her travels.  She needed rest and a good nights sleep!

Mary was just as excited to see Joseph but inside she was a bit nervous.  How was she to tell Joseph of her happenings?  How was she to tell him what the angel had said?  Did he even believe in angels?  She was trying hard to figure out men.  She loved Joseph and with working so hard while she was gone, she was even more proud of his accomplishments.  She did know though that it wouldn't be long before she could not hide her small bulge at her waist.  She prayed every day that somehow God himself would tell and explain this whole story to Joseph.  As Joseph stood to say good bye, he asked her, "Is everything OK, Mary?  You look extra tired.  Is something on your mind?"  Here goes!  "Yes, 'something' is on my mind!  I'm not sure how to say all this to you, Joseph.  I hope you will understand.  I hope you will not get upset."

"What is it?  It's been weeks since we've seen each other.  Did something happen to you?  Did someone hurt you?"

"Nobody hurt me.  Yes, I am OK, but something glorious did come upon me.  An angel visited me a few months ago and said that I will be the mother of the Messiah.  Me.  The Holy Spirit came upon me and I am pregnant.  Pregnant with a boy, God's son."  She froze to see how Joseph would take this all in.  It was a mouthful, so knew that!  Oh, how she hoped he believed her!!!

Joseph was alone.  What did Mary just tell him?  How could this be?  Why her?  An angel visited her?  This was much more than Joseph himself knew what to do with.  News like this was not something he expected at all.  Never.  He knew that leaving Mary with so many questions, was not very comforting for her or himself, but it was the only way he knew to keep his cool.  To believe such an odd story like this was hard.  Women are complicated but this was too much.  If it really was from God, maybe God himself should tell him!

Joseph laid in bed that night and could not sleep.  What would he do about Mary?  If she really was pregnant, he knew the ways of the people.  They would laugh.  He knew they would tell him to divorce Mary and get out of the relationship.  A trust like this type broken between a betrothed couple was not to be fixed.  Joseph was heartbroken.  He felt like all his work and dreams of past months have been shattered.  He laid very still in his bed.  What should he do?  He knew deep down in his heart that divorcing Mary would never be the right thing to do.  He would never put her to shame.  As one thought after the other passed through his mind, he finally feel asleep.  But during the night, he had a dream.  An angel appeared to him and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

Joseph sat up straight and he was never so shook up in life!  What did he just dream?  Was it really so?  It must be because when you see an angel, you never forget the feeling!  He felt sure that God had visited him just like he did to Mary!  This was amazing!  They were really going to be the care takers of the Son of God.  This responsibility was more weight on his shoulders but he knew now what he really was to do.  He was going to take Mary as his wife, just like the angel commanded him.  He would keep Mary whole and a virgin until after this baby was born.  This baby boy they would call Jesus!

The sun did not rise soon enough for Joseph.  As soon as the daylight burst forth, he went straight to Mary's house again.  This time he felt so different.  When he left her house before, he was angry and mad inside.  He felt betrayed and his dreams were crushed.  Now, his feelings were completely different!  He believed all Mary had told him and he believed even more the words from the angel!  They now really had so much to talk about!  He made no delay and as soon as he entered into Mary's house again, she knew God must have told him.  Joseph apologized for his harsh words.  To believe such a story was hard but now that he to had been visited by an angel, they together knew this to be true!  Mary was so relieved to see Joseph excited and understanding instead of upset.  She was again reminded that, "For nothing will be impossible with God."

The news of Mary's pregnancy spread like wild fire.  Joseph and Mary did have the small wedding of their simple dreams.  They were enjoying the nice furniture Joseph had made for them.  But, their was a decree that went out from Caesar Augustus soon after they settled in their new home.  He said that the whole world should be registered.  Everyone was to go to their home town.  Why now?  What should they do?  To go all those miles would be a hard journey.  Mary was going to have this baby in a few weeks and to pack up and go now, seemed impossible.  Again, they found themselves wondering how all this was going to work out.  They asked lots of questions between the two of them but when it came down to it, they found themselves packing up their warmest clothes and bare neccesities.  They were both nervous but they did as they were told and traveled towards Bethlehem!

Bethlehem was both of their ancestors town.  To go and register was a lot to expect for this young couple but they loved each other so much and knowing God's plans were best, they headed off.  It took days to travel there.  They found shelter during the night and tried to get comfortable and sleep.  They picked up their pace when they neared the busy little town.  They knew they didn't have much farther and to get a room for tonight could be a tough job!

They walked through the streets with so many others unloading their belongings and trying to get settled before night fall.  It was getting late and Mary was tired.  Joseph was so proud of her for traveling all this way without complaining.  She would just bare down and keep walking.  She kept thinking this was all for a purpose.  Staying focused on God's plan that they weren't sure how it was all going to pan out, was important.  Joseph walked from inn to inn to try to get a room.  It seemed that each inn was already packed!  Everything was full!  NO VACANCY!  Joseph tried to keep his cool but it was hard because he knew how tired Mary was and she really, really needed a bed.  And a good night's sleep!

One more inn was in sight.  He would beg on his knees if he needed to!  Just one room!  Was that too much to ask?  Again, the inn keeper looked stressed and tired to but he had no rooms.  Joseph was determined to not give up!  "Is there no place we can stay?  Just a place out of the wind and cold!  My wife is very pregnant!  She is tired and all we need is somewhere warm and dry!"  The inn keeper looked at Mary, then back at Joseph.  What were they doing here?  The man was right, that was for sure, they did need a place to stay!  What should he do?  The only thing that popped in his head was the stable.  It had a few animals in it but plenty of room for one couple to spend the night!  It was dry.  Out of the cold and wind.  The inn keeper meekly answered, "Excuse me, but I don't have much else to offer.  If you would like to stay in my stable just around the back, you are welcome to that.  I am sorry it's not much, but it's all I have available."  "Anything, thank you sir!"  Mary was relieved to finally be able to rest.  Joseph was glad to finally get Mary off her feet!

They were escorted to the stable.  Joseph slowly opened the creepy old door.  It wasn't a clean room in the inn but it was good enough for one night!  He quickly started to clean a small section and laid clean hay and straw on the floor.  Mary unpacked some blankets she had in her leather sack.  It didn't take them long to get settled before Mary was reminded of her pains she kept having on and off.  Could it be labor?  How was she to know?  She waited, and then it happened again.  A little stronger this time.  She couldn't hide it from Joseph and she let him know that maybe their baby son would be born, tonight, in a stable!  There was no way they could go anywhere else now!  They had tried.  They were both exhausted.  They looked at each other knowing that God will help them ... no matter what!

Joseph did his best to help Mary with any discomfort she felt!  He got fresh water.  He looked around the stable for a bed for the baby if it were born tonight.  There was a small manger that held the animals food.  He emptied the animal food and cleaned it up really good.  He asked Mary for another blanket to lay inside of the manger.  Soon, Joseph heard a baby cry!  Their son had been born!  Tonight!  Here!  He looked and saw he was healthy with such a tiny figure.  The baby cried as they washed him from birth.  He was perfect!  His face was so sweet.  Mary lay very still taking in each moment by moment.  Joseph had done well with helping her.  They were both even more exhausted but inside they felt very wide awake!  To experience this moment was what they waited for so long!  Mary wrapped the baby boy in clothes that she had made with her very hands.  She laid him in the manger Joseph prepared.  They both already knew his name because of what the angel had said, but to say it together was glorious!  "Jesus."  "Jesus."  "Jesus."  They loved him already so much!

Throughout the next weeks, many things happened.  Shepherds came to worship the baby.  They said that the heavenly's told of Jesus' birth!  Simeon and Anna, both older folks from the temple, blessed them and baby Jesus.  Wisemen came and gave gifts.  Joseph did find them a better place to stay until Mary gained her strength.  They registered to pay their taxes.  Staying in Bethlehem would be their home for just awhile.  Mary needed rest.  Jesus needed to stay warm.  Even though they missed home, they were so happy to start their family in such a noble town!  Only God could have worked out the small details for them!  They both felt so blessed!

First doctor visit for baby on the way!

I called the doctor and made my first appointment!  I was excited and I couldn't wait to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time.  I was so excited that I asked Mike to go with me.  I thought it would be special for him and I to hear it together for the first time.  He decided to go along and have an appointment for himself.  He needed a physical to keep his CDL license up to date.  Perfect then!  We made two appointments, right after each other.

I picked up Mike at the shop and we stopped for a quick soup and sandwich and then headed to the doctor's office!  When we go to the doctors office, the nurse started with all the normal procedures.  Weight.  Blood pressure. She asked tons of questions and finally we got to see the doctor!  Pap.  Then we listened for the heartbeat.  We listened some more.  She kept pushing on my belly and moving the Doppler all around.  Then she said she's going to try another way by tilting my uterus a bit.  Then we listened again.  Still we didn't hear the baby's heartbeat.  Only mine.  Mine came through clear as a whistle.  She was determined to get it but finally, she stopped.  Usually, at 10 1/2 weeks pregnant they can get a heartbeat.  She also measured me and said that she thinks I am further along than I think ... the normal response that I got with each first baby visit!  I tend to show really fast and my uterus get's big quick.  That was another reason she seemed concerned to not hear the heartbeat.  What now?  Do we go for an ultra sound and check up on baby dear?  Do we wait two weeks and then go back and try again?  The decision was totally up to Mike and I!  We chose to go for an ultra sound.  Waiting through the holidays didn't seem like the stress free option!  :)

I took Mike back to the shop because by now, it was getting late.  He never did get his physical done because they don't update CDL's.  :/  I went right back towards the doctors office and pulled in at the lab.  My afternoon of excitement was not turning out how I thought it would.  I was nervous.  My hands and legs were cold.  I had to pee so bad, I mean so bad, that I wasn't sure I was going to make it to the lab door.  They gave me two glasses of water to drink at the doctors office.  I needed to be extra hydrated for the ultra sound and blood work.  I got registered and immediately asked if I can pee.  I never was so uncomfortable from a full bladder!  The lady was really nice and got me checked in fast and I was on my way to comfort!  At least from my full bladder.  My insides were still nervous.  I promise I tried not to worry.  I had a feeling that everything was OK but I was anxious to find out!  By now, Hadassah called me and said that they were home from school.  I asked her and Matthew to pray for a good report!  I also asked her to turn off the crock pot filled with lasagna because by the time I would get home, it would be over cooked.  I called Lena and told her what was up because Ashlyn was with her and Hunter.

I was taken to a private room with the lights turned dim.  The dark haired lady was very nice.  She got right to the procedure.  She squirted that warm gooey stuff on my little belly bulge and turned the screen towards me!  I apologized for shaking.  I was still so cold.  She said she hadn't noticed!  :)  She pulled in on baby and EVERYTHING IS GREAT!!!  The tiny little baby was squirming all around.  Not moving still for a second.  I hadn't had an ultra sound at all with Ashlyn's pregnancy so this was kinda new again for me after so many years.  Her guess was that because the baby was moving around so much, that was the reason for not being able to hear the heartbeat at the other office.?.  She then turned the screen towards her and began measuring the tiny bundle of love that we already love so much!  I was right about my due date too.  July 11!  I must just be one that can't hind baby too long!

She left me see the baby again before she finished up.  She waited and waited for the baby to hold still for just a second to get an accurate heart beat rate.  173!  She printed out three pictures for me to bring home!  The kids and Mike will be thrilled to see this!

I then went to the room next door and got some blood work done that I would have had to do anyway.  Since I was at the lab, they did it in one visit!

I thanked God for the good report!  I texted Mike and sent him a picture of "the little one"!  I called home and told Hadassah that everything is fine and that I'll be home soon!

We are blessed!  We thanked God as a family for keeping me and baby safe!  We pray every day for "the little one" growing inside of me.  We pray for good health.  We pray for a good pregnancy and delivery.  We pray that this child will grow up to be a solider for Christ!

I got home tired and hungry.  I had a little bit of headache and figured it was from the little extra stress.  The kids loved the pictures!  I thought it was so cute of Ashlyn.  She came running and said, "So where's your baby?"  She begged to go along with me for this visit but I decided not too take her along since it was my first visit with extra things to do.  I told her that I wouldn't get to see the baby but just hear the heartbeat.  Boy, I guess I was wrong.  It was actually the opposite.  When Hadassah told her that I have a picture of the baby to show them, her small mind thought I was bringing the baby home with me to see.  Literally.  I was bringing the baby along home, just not to see in person just yet!  :)

Even thought the first visit was a bit different than my other first baby visit's, I feel so blessed!  I can't wait to actually hear the baby's heartbeat next time!  As for now, I will keep eating lots of small meals.  I will fight off my heart burns and indigestions!  :)  I will try my hardest to eat all healthy things over the holidays!!!  :)

We are blessed!

Our nativity scene ... 1.

The other day on the radio, I heard an author quote from his book, "A Walk One Winter Night".  Al Andrews read from his small book he wrote about a nativity scene.  Before he wrote it, he was not really looking forwards to Christmas.  It has become such a busy time.  A time where money gets spent a lot.  Too rushed.  He decided to go out for a walk and passing by the neighbors nativity scene set in their front lawn, he stopped to look.  He was touched to actually take in the nativity scene as "real life".  In his mind, the characters one by one became alive.  He had a moment when the nativity scene became 'real life' in his mind.  He then wrote a book about his experience.  I can't wait to get this book myself because I to am one that likes "real life".

As I listened to the radio broadcast, I took in the words and began to wonder myself how it must have really all taken place.  Again.  I do this almost every year.  I wonder how the story of Jesus' birth really took place.  I know the Bible is true with all it says but it doesn't tell us the small details.  What about the things they ate?  It doesn't tell all the troubles they faced in detail.  Nor how many inns they asked to stay at before finally sleeping in a stable.  Or did they really sleep soundly?  The Bible gives only the details we really need to know but I just can't help but wonder how it must have been if I were there in "real life".

As I took a look at our own nativity scene that sets on the front picture window sill each Christmas, I pondered.  Here are some of my thoughts.  I'll start with Mary since she was the chosen one to be the mother of the Messiah!

I've been told that back then, that the girls and young ladies would have thought of being the chosen one to be the mother of the upcoming Messiah would be an honor!  If that's true, the day the angel visited Mary must have not been like an ordinary day for her.  She was young.  Maybe not blemish free since most teenage or younger people deal with acne.  Or maybe their food and hormones were that much better back then that acne was nonexistent?  She was in love with a man that she already made a promise to marry some day.  She worked hard.  She helped her mom with making clothes.  Cooking.  Carrying water pot after water pot to their home.  She helped do the laundry.  Scrub out stains.  Fold the clean laundry.  Clean the house.  She probably helped do animals chores and grind wheat.  She probably even made some yummy sweets for her family.  She was a normal girl in a small town living a normal life.

The Bible does tell us that Mary was taught much about the scriptures!  When the angel told her the news of her becoming pregnant, she was troubled and tried to figure out who was speaking and why.  The angel right away told her to "not be afraid."  "You have found favor with God.  You will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will call his name Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."  Imagine hearing those words!  She didn't need to wonder what on earth it all meant!  Did she have questions?  Probably many!  But did she question the angel's words?  No!  She did ask one question though, "How will this be, since I am a virgin?"  The angel assured her that the Holy Spirit will come upon her, the power of the Most High will overshadow her; therefore the child will be holy - the Son of God.  The angel also went on to tell her about her old relative Elizabeth.  She to was expecting a child, a son.  Before the angel left Mary, he said, "For nothing will be impossible with God."  Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word."  Then the angel left her alone.

What just happened?  Did she just hear from God?  Surely, she said over and over again in her mind the words she heard, "For nothing will be impossible with God."  Nothing!  A baby!  A boy!  To be born through me?  How again will that happen?  The name is to be Jesus!  A name above every name!  I can't imagine all the thoughts that suddenly turned all her normal routines into a tizzy!  It's all she could think about!!!  It's all she could do to not shout out loud or tell her mom or tell the world!  Then reality probably came face to face to her!  What about Joseph?  What about what the towns people would say?  Would her own family laugh and make fun?  Or would they believe just as she did?  Again, she probably reminded herself, "For nothing will be impossible with God."

The bible tells us that Mary went quickly to visit Elizabeth.  Did she tell why she needed to go now?  Traveling wasn't the easiest back then and probably not the safest for such a young girl, but she went.  She knew God would take care of her!  She knew without any doubt that God was watching over her!!!  When she got to Zechariah and Elizabeth's house, she greeted them with joy!  As soon as the baby, still inside of Elizabeth, heard Mary's voice, the baby leaped, and Elizabeth was filled with the Hold Spirit.  She blessed Mary!  She knew that Mary was pregnant with Jesus!  She was honored to have Mary, the mother of Jesus, come visit her.  Mary rejoices with Elizabeth!  They had their own little party right then and there!  They both knew that were carrying boys that were going to make an eternal difference for the world!  How would it all take place?  Did they wonder and ponder on what the next few months would bring for both of them?  They knew they would suffer pain.  Nothing is harder than child birth pain.  They knew the people around them would be talking!  They knew that they would both have to give their sons and lives completely to God's plan!  They also knew that God was with them both!!!  Every step of the way!!!  Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months and returned back to her home town.

Elizabeth gave birth to John!  Her neighbors and relatives were so happy that the Lord showed great mercy to her.  I think that must mean that God was right there in His presence while she gave birth.  Maybe it was an easier delivery?  She deserved it in her old age!!!  I can't imagine a ninety plus year old lady having the strength to have a baby!  God knew that!!!  :)  He cared for her.  The people wanted to name the child after his father.  But the angel told Zachariah that he was to be named "John".  Up until now the dad, the one who doubted the angel's words, could not speak.  When he went into the temple to do his priestly job and came out not able to talk!  Zachariah was also told through an angel that they would have a son and because he laughed, he could not speak until John was born.  Right here, when they named him, Zachariah spoke again!  He blessed God this time instead of laughing.  I think he may have learned a lesson here!  :)  Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit to and prophesied over their son.  John grew up and became strong in the spirit!  The bible doesn't say how old his parents lived to be but it says that he was in the wilderness until his public appearance to Israel.  John knew his reason for being born!  He was ready to preach!  Ready to tell all those who listened, about Jesus!

Meanwhile, Mary was back home getting pudgy and showing some pregnancy signs.  How was she going to explain all this to Joseph?  Did she write down her thoughts?  Did she say them over and over in mind?  Or did she completely trust that God would take care of things like this?  Maybe both.  She was about to find out that the man she loved was going to love her back just as much!!!

The bible says that Joseph was a just man.  Surely Mary knew how good Joseph would treat her!  When he realized all that was going on, he thought about divorcing her quietly.  Did he not believe her?  Was he scared?  He was probably upset, and hurt, and confused!  He thought Mary loved him!  As he considered these things, he had the surprise of his life to!  An angel appeared to him in a dream.  He was told to not fear to take Mary as his wife.  For the baby that she conceived was really, truly, from the Holy Spirit!  His name was to Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.  Then Joseph woke up!!!  Startled!  Maybe ashamed from all his previous thoughts he had had.  He got up and did exactly what the angel commanded him to do.  He took Mary as his wife!  He stood by her and cared for!  The whole way to Bethlehem and beyond!  (Let's talk more about Joseph on another post.)

It was taxing time and the whole world was to be registered.  Each person was to go to their own town and be registered.  Joseph and Mary were to both go from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David ... Bethlehem.  Joseph was to travel this far because he was from the lineage of David.  Mary was to be registered with him.  Still only betrothed.  Still very pregnant.  Still believing that God would take care of them!

They packed their things.  Both probably wondering why they must go now to register?  Or maybe they knew the prophecies well and realized that it would be in Bethlehem that Jesus would be born?  In either case, they would need warm clothes.  Blankets.  Food and water.  They would need to take extra time because traveling that far would make Mary very tired!  Both of them would be tired!  They gathered up all their things with maybe Mary's mother grabbing a warm blanket that she made just for this journey and gave it to them!  Surely, Mary would have loved for her mom to be with her.  Be with her on this hard journey!  Mary knew that Joseph would do all he could to protect her, help her and see that she gets as much care as possible!  She also knew deep inside her heart that "with God all things were possible".  They said their good byes and headed for Bethlehem.

They walked and walked and walked.  Then they finally rested!  It took them probably days to get there!  But, they made it!  They finally saw the lights of the tiny town of Bethlehem!  That may have been enough encouragement to make them go just a bit faster.  But when they got inside of town, they went looking for a room!  Not like they were tired enough, no, they were exhausted from their days of traveling!  A warm bed.  A warm piece of bread or some soup would taste so good!  Some water to refresh their dirty hands and feet!  Just one room was all they went looking for!  Somewhere out of the cold and dry!

"We have no more rooms!!!  We are completely filled up!  Don't keep asking me!  WE HAVE NO MORE ROOMS AVAILABLE!"  I can just imagine how many times this inn keeper said these words.  The streets must have been crowded with people wanting to rest!  Joseph wasn't going to give up!  He knew they REALLY did need a place to stay!  A place to rest!  A place warm and safe.  Somewhere out of the public.  Somewhere private, very private.  Mary was in labor!

Mary was breathing in and out and trying to get through the labor pains as much as she could without getting upset.  She knew Joseph was trying to find them a room.  She knew something must be available.  She also knew that it had to be tonight to get somewhere warm and safe!  When the inn keeper finally offered Joseph the only thing he had left, they were relieved!  Even though it was in a stable, it was a place to rest!  It didn't smell like home.  It wasn't as comfy as home.  It wasn't at all what they even expected but they knew ... God was with them!

Joseph got busy cleaning up the stable floors and making room for them to sleep.  Maybe Mary got that special blanket from her dear mom and cuddled tightly with it.  It still smelled like home.  It was still the only clean thing they had left, except for a few other small blankets she made for their baby boy!  They looked around at the stable while they slowly unpacked some of their bags.  Was this really where they would spend the night?  Was it really the only thing available out there?  Maybe they should have kept seeking?  No, they were so tired and knew that this was good enough!  They were out of the cold.  Out of the wind.  Somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.  Somewhere private.  They washed up and relaxed ... well, as much as possible.  Mary was still trying to breath through some contractions and noticed that they were getting harder and closer.  What did these two know about giving birth?  This was their first baby!  Was this the first signs of labor?  Were they all educated up and ready to play doctor?  It's hard to think of how it really must have been way back then.  Surely, much different than how it is now!!!  The only thing they really knew in their hearts was that if baby Jesus was to be born tonight, in this dirty stable, they would be the best and proudest parents in town!  They rolled up their sleeves and asked God for help as they waited!

Sometime during the night, Mary woke up Joseph.  She was in a sweat.  She was trying to breath in and out slowly but it was so hard to concentrate.  Her pain was great!  She knew she needed help and cried out for God to be near!  "For nothing will be impossible with God!"  She believed it with all her heart!  The angel said so!  It wasn't real long until they heard the first cries of their newborn baby!  It was a boy!  It was God's son!  They really were parents!  They were so excited and so proud and so happy to finally hold this precious, promised baby in their arms.  Joseph got Mary some clean straw and water.  They named the boy just as the angel had said, "Jesus!"  The baby was screaming and needed to be cleaned up before he was wrapped in Mary's clean blankets.  She wrapped him tight in swaddling clothes.  Joseph looked around at what they could use for Jesus' first bed.  There, in the corner of the stable, stood a manger.  He dumped out what was in it and filled it with clean, soft hay.  He brought it over to Mary and she smiled.  How special for him to help her so!  She was reminded of how special Joseph was to her and how much she loved him!  He wasn't no doctor, just a carpenter.  His skills were unique and he knew how to make a piece of wood turn into a beautiful, handcrafted piece of art.  His hard working hands were strong.  He worked with wood every day and so finding this manger was a gift from God!  After feeding the baby and holding him tight, Mary laid him in the small wooden box.  He was perfect.  In every way.  He had ten fingers and ten toes.  His cry was so soft.  He had a special peacefulness about him!  He was a gift to them from God above!  Suddenly, they didn't feel so alone.  They were a family.  They were so happy and pleased to be the chosen parents of this special child!

It was a long night.  A hard night.  One filled with such pain and joy all at the same time!  They needed rest and sleep.  God brought them through a long journey and now God would surely be with them in the next few hours, days, the weeks ahead, and even for as long as they lived.  He would lead them and guide them!  They believed even more that God's plan was perfect!!!
