Light the Christmas Tree

Last night was the night.  The night we all decided we would go and pick out the perfect size tree for our living room.  Last year, we made an evening of getting the tree plus driving past extra Christmas light displays.  We wanted to do that again this year.

We started off in Mike's truck and went to one huge nativity display nearby.  It's so neat to see the actual size of the animals and here some music playing in the background.  Probably far from the 'real' scene.  I imagine it wasn't all so clean and good smelling with soft carol's playing behind the manger.?.

Then we went for our tree.  We always go to the same farm and usually pick a red color tag tree.  They are the smaller ones.  This year we went with a yellow tag.  A little bigger and only for $37.  The kids and Mike picked out a nice one and Mike loaded it on the back on the truck.

Off to see more lights.  We were all a bit disappointed that Ashlyn slept through the entire night.  She didn't have much of a nap that day and fell asleep as soon as we hit the road.  We went to a display where we walked through to see all the ornaments and lights.  Ashlyn would have loved it and Matthew wants to go back again so she can see it too!

Back into the truck and off to see Daudy Lapps.  The kids thought we should stop in since we were close by.

We got home and had to rearrange some furniture to make room for the tree.  Mike and Matthew carried it in and we had quit the time to get it standing up straight and tall.  Mike had to cut off some low branches and then Matthew filled the base with water.  I helped string on the lights and then Hadassah and Matthew put on the ornaments.  Again, we were sad that Ashlyn was too tired and sleeping.  She got to put some ornaments on the tree today!

Gotta do something with all that energy!!!

Matthew hopped up on Hadassah's shoulders to put the finishing touches on the tree ... the star.

Projects like these don't always go as smooth as we wish.  A few spats and huffs but trying to keep peace with us all is a family promise!  For, again, isn't this Christmas time?  A time of joy and cheer?  We try ... and will do better!!!

The tree looks great (and is finally straight!!!).  It glitters in the dark from the sparkling ornaments and soft white lights.

I think it's perfect.
